Implement upsert functionality for user actions to handle concurrent requests and prevent duplicate entries - #1888
Conversation
…requests and prevent duplicate entries
📝 Walkthrough
Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to Concurrent mailing runs can produce an insert error, although one run can still include the user. The upsert’s follow-up read also warrants a null-safe result path. These are bounded risks to address or explicitly accept before merging. Pre-merge checks |

Second query can return null.
getOne() returns null when no row matches. Normally the upsert guarantees a row. If the user is deleted between the two statements, buildCreatedUserActionDs(savedUserAction) receives null and throws a TypeError. The result is a 500 response instead of a clear error.
Use RETURNING on the insert instead of a second query. This removes the gap and saves a round trip. InsertQueryBuilder.returning('*') works on PostgreSQL.

Use the atomic user-action upsert for the create branch.
Two overlapping cron executions can both find no action and call save(newUserActionEntity). Because user_action.userId is unique, one insert can fail. The per-user error boundary catches that failure before emails.push, so the losing execution omits the user from its email result. The winning execution may still send one email, but this path still raises a concurrent-insert error because it does not use the new upsert.
Route this branch through the repository’s atomic upsert/claim operation and return true only for the execution that claims mailing.
