fix(provider-cursor): Cursor keeps working when a team blocks /v1/me - #24639
Cursor Enterprise admins can turn off some Cursor API endpoints. On those teams GET /v1/me returns 403 feature_unavailable, while GET /v1/models and local agent runs still work (#16224). T3 Code's Cursor status probe waits on both calls, so the 403 fails the whole probe. Cursor shows as an error with "Cursor SDK catalog request failed. Check server logs for details.", auth stays unknown, the discovered models disappear, and browser sign-in is rejected. The provider is unusable even though the key can run agents.
Change
CursorSdkCatalog.read now treats the /v1/me read as best effort. T3 Code only uses that response for the account label and email. If it fails with anything other than a rejected key, the probe keeps the model list and the account shows the generic "Cursor API key" (or "Cursor account") label without an email.
A rejected key stays a failure. A 401 from /v1/me still reports "Cursor SDK authentication failed", the same as today. A network or server error on /v1/me now also leaves Cursor ready, without the key name and email, whenever the model list loads. The model list stays cached for 30 minutes after a successful read, so in that window an outage that only /v1/me used to catch no longer shows Cursor as an error. The free-plan case from #15075 is unchanged, since there /v1/models also returns plan_required and that error still reaches the status message.
Nothing else changes. T3 Code does not call /v1/repositories or /v1/agents, the other two endpoints in the issue, so local runs never depended on them.
Scope and approval
Fixes#16224. The maintainer triage on the issue traced the failure to this probe and suggested this direction: let model discovery succeed when Cursor.me fails with a non-401 error, fall back to a generic label, and keep a real 401 as an authentication failure. The later maintainer comment noted that making the identity probe optional changes auth-status handling and needs review. This PR keeps that change to one rule: a key that can list models counts as authenticated.
Verification
One table-driven test in the existing status.test.ts runs the real catalog with a /v1/me probe that fails, through checkCursorProviderStatus. The 403 case fails on main and passes here. The 401 case passes on both and guards the auth path.
The new Cursor status test failing against main. With /v1/me blocked, main reports status "error", auth "unknown" and no models.
The Cursor status and catalog tests passing on this branch, 11 of 11, the two new cases included.
To check the real SDK path, I ran checkCursorProviderStatus with the live catalog layer and @cursor/sdk 1.0.35. CURSOR_BACKEND_URL pointed at a local stand-in that returns 403 feature_unavailable for /v1/me and two models for /v1/models. The SDK raises this as an UnknownAgentError with status 403, not an AuthenticationError. With a 401 on /v1/me, both report "Cursor SDK authentication failed. Check CURSOR_API_KEY."
T3 Code's Cursor status probe with the real SDK and /v1/me returning 403 feature_unavailable. Main reports an error with no models; this branch reports ready with both models.
I then ran the apps against a dev server built from main and one built from this branch. Both used the same stand-in, with a placeholder CURSOR_API_KEY on a Cursor provider: the web app, the Linux desktop app, and dev builds of the iOS and Android apps paired to that server.
Web app, Settings > Providers > Cursor with /v1/me blocked: main shows Unavailable with "Cursor SDK catalog request failed"; this branch shows Authenticated · Cursor API key.
Web app, the Cursor card's Models section: main reports 0 models; this branch lists Composer 2.5 and Opus 5.5.
Web app model picker searched for "Composer": main finds no models; this branch lists Composer 2.5 under Cursor.
Linux desktop app, the same Cursor card: main shows Unavailable with the catalog error; this branch shows Authenticated · Cursor API key.
Linux desktop app model picker: on main the Cursor tab is greyed out and Codex models show; on this branch the Cursor tab opens with Composer 2.5 and Opus 5.5.
iOS app, Settings > Environments > the server's Providers list: main shows the Cursor catalog error; this branch shows Cursor without it.
Android app, the same Providers list: main shows the Cursor catalog error; this branch shows Cursor without it.
vp run check:changed main passes: format, lint, knip, typecheck of the affected packages and the tests beside the change.

A real Cursor Enterprise account. I don't have one; the 403 came from the local stand-in, using the body shape the SDK parses.
An agent run on an enterprise key. The issue reports local runs already work there, and this PR does not touch the run path.

Enterprise teams can turn off GET /v1/me while model listing and local
runs keep working. The catalog probe required both, so a 403 on /v1/me
put Cursor in an error state and dropped every discovered model.
Treat the account read as best effort. A rejected key (401) still fails
the probe; any other /v1/me failure keeps the listed models and shows the
generic "Cursor API key" label.

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This bug fix allows Cursor model discovery to succeed when /v1/me is blocked or fails, and changes the provider's authentication status and labeling on that path. Because it changes authentication-status handling in production, the behavior warrants human review.

The Cursor SDK catalog can continue reading models when /v1/me returns an account-blocked error. Authentication status handling accepts a missing user. Tests cover account-blocked, plan-required, server, and authentication errors.

Summary
Optional user lookup and auth handling packages/provider-cursor/src/server/CursorSdkCatalog.ts, packages/provider-cursor/src/server/status.ts, packages/provider-cursor/src/server/status.test.ts
The catalog returns an absent user for feature_unavailable and 403 errors that are not plan_required. Other user lookup errors still fail the read, and the catalog continues to read models. Status handling accepts the absent user. Tests cover these cases, plus plan_required, 503, and 401 responses.
A rejected Cursor key could appear authenticated if its account lookup returns this error combination. Preserve 401 authentication failures before merging.

Explanation
The title names the affected provider and the core behavior change: Cursor keeps working when a team blocks /v1/me. It matches the main change (the /v1/me probe becomes best effort for non-401 failures, so model discovery and authentication still succeed) and follows the conventional commit style of the repository template. It is specific, concise, and a teammate scanning history would understand the primary change.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description covers the required sections of the template: Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification. The Problem section explains the 403 feature_unavailable failure on /v1/me and the expected behavior. The Change section explains the best-effort /v1/me read and the retained 401 failure. Scope links issue #16224 and cites maintainer triage direction. Verification names the focused table-driven test, the before/after results on main and the branch, the SDK path check, app checks, and states what was not checked. The description contains one inconsistency to resolve: the Change section says network and server errors on /v1/me also leave Cursor ready, while the objectives note that the commit messages describe network and server errors as still failing the probe. The author should reconcile these statements. Some verification images are external gist links that reviewers must open to see evidence. The template's note about the conventional commit title is satisfied by the title.

Explanation
Issue #16224 requires Cursor authentication to work when GET /v1/me returns the Enterprise 403 feature_unavailable response and model discovery succeeds. At the reviewed head, CursorSdkCatalogSnapshot.user is optional. CursorSdkCatalog.read converts account-blocked 403 user reads to an absent user while preserving the model result. cursorSdkAuth accepts the absent user and uses the generic API-key label. A 401 remains an authentication failure, and plan_required remains an error. The added table-driven tests cover coded and uncoded 403 responses, plan_required, 503, and 401. The provider does not call /v1/repositories or /v1/agents, so those issue endpoints add no missing implementation requirement.

Explanation
The changed catalog and authentication handling directly implement issue #16224. The status tests verify the required Enterprise 403 behavior and preserve the existing authentication and free-plan error paths. The supplied change summary establishes no unrelated implementation change.

The account read now tolerates only Cursor's feature_unavailable block,
the 403 enterprise teams return from /v1/me. Network errors and other
/v1/me failures fail the probe again, so a refresh during a Cursor outage
reports an error instead of ready from cached models.

The SDK sets code "unknown" when a 403 body carries no code, so matching
only feature_unavailable would undo the pingdotgg#16224 fix if Cursor's real
Enterprise body lacks it. plan_required still fails, and so do 401,
network and server errors. New status rows cover a codeless 403, a
plan_required 403 and a 503 on /v1/me.

Restrict feature_unavailable fallback to account-blocked responses.
If /v1/me returns 401 with code feature_unavailable, accountBlocked returns true. The catalog then discards the authentication error. When model discovery succeeds, status handling reports the key as authenticated. Require status 403 before treating this code as an account block. Add a 401 feature_unavailable case to the status table. The PR objective says that a 401 remains an authentication failure.
