Summary

Extend the existing Machine validating webhook to validate GCPDisk.Licenses for GCP provider specs.

The validation accepts both the full Google Compute license URI and the short self-link form, while preserving nil/empty backward compatibility. Invalid host, path, project ID, and license resource-name values are rejected at the indexed provider-spec field path.

Implementation

  • Reuses the existing validateGCPDisks webhook path; no new webhook server is introduced.
  • Matches the schema validation added in openshift/api#2980.
  • Updates the API dependency through a reproducible bot-fork replacement and refreshes vendored files.

Validation

  • make vendor
  • make crds-sync
  • GOFLAGS=-mod=vendor go test ./pkg/webhooks -run '^TestValidateGCPProviderSpec$' -count=1
  • make unit
  • make lint
  • make vet
  • git diff --check
  • make check

All completed successfully.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes

    • GCP disk license references are now checked for valid formats and lengths. Explicitly empty license lists, more than eight entries, references longer than 256 characters, and invalid reference formats are rejected. Omitted license lists remain accepted.
  • Tests

    • Expanded coverage for accepted and rejected GCP disk license values, including resource-name formats, malformed references, and boundary cases.

Pipeline controller notification
This repo is configured to use the pipeline controller. Second-stage tests will be triggered either automatically or after lgtm label is added, depending on the repository configuration. The pipeline controller will automatically detect which contexts are required and will utilize /test Prow commands to trigger the second stage.

For optional jobs, comment /test ? to see a list of all defined jobs. To trigger manually all jobs from second stage use /pipeline required command.

This repository is configured in: LGTM mode

Walkthrough

The webhook now validates GCP disk license lists and references. Tests cover omitted and explicitly empty lists, list size limits, and accepted and rejected reference formats. The Go module now replaces github.com/openshift/api with a specified fork and version.

Changes

GCP disk license validation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Validate GCP disk licenses
pkg/webhooks/machine_webhook.go, pkg/webhooks/machine_webhook_test.go, pkg/webhooks/disk_license_contract_test.go
The webhook rejects explicitly empty lists, lists with more than eight entries, references over 256 characters, and references that do not match the license pattern. Tests cover omitted lists, valid resource-name forms, length boundaries, and invalid references.

API module replacement

Layer / File(s) Summary
Replace the API module
go.mod
The replace directive maps github.com/openshift/api to github.com/redhat-chai-bot/api at version v0.0.0-20261022085424-a1b8709295ab.

The GCP disk license validation matches the API schema's short-form format. The build now depends on a forked API module whose provenance and approval are unconfirmed; confirm the fork's status or switch back to the upstream module before the final merge.

Full details: Stable And Deterministic Test Names

Explanation

The pull request adds only standard Go tests and static t.Run names. No added It, Describe, Context, or When titles contain dynamic values, generated identifiers, IPs, namespaces, node names, timestamps, or legacy metadata tokens. The table-driven subtest names are fixed descriptive strings.

Full details: Test Structure And Quality

Explanation

The pull request adds standard Go testing tests, not Ginkgo tests. It adds no It blocks, cluster resource operations, Eventually/Consistently calls, or cleanup-sensitive setup. Therefore the stated Ginkgo-specific requirements do not apply.

Full details: Microshift Test Compatibility

Explanation

The pull request adds Go testing unit/contract tests only. The changed test files use testing.T, t.Run, and t.Parallel; they add no Ginkgo It, Describe, Context, or When tests. Therefore the MicroShift Ginkgo e2e compatibility check does not apply.

Full details: Single Node Openshift (Sno) Test Compatibility

Explanation

PASS: The pull request adds only standard Go unit tests (func Test...) in pkg/webhooks; it adds no Ginkgo e2e tests or It/Describe/Context/When blocks. The tests validate GCP license strings and webhook errors only, with no multi-node or HA assumptions.

Full details: Topology-Aware Scheduling Compatibility

Explanation

PASS: The pull request adds GCP disk-license validation and tests, plus dependency/vendor updates. It does not add or modify deployment manifests, operator/controller scheduling code, replicas, affinity, topology spread, node selectors, tolerations, or PDBs. No topology scheduling constraint is introduced.

Full details: Ote Binary Stdout Contract

Explanation

No OTE stdout contract violation was introduced. The OTE entrypoint cmd/machine-api-tests-ext/main.go is unchanged. Added code is limited to GCP license validation and unit tests; it adds no fmt.Print*, os.Stdout, logging-output, suite-setup, main, init, or TestMain writes. Vendored API changes also add no stdout writes.

Full details: Ipv6 And Disconnected Network Test Compatibility

Explanation

The pull request adds standard Go tests only: TestDiskLicenseAPIContract(t *testing.T) and table cases in TestValidateGCPProviderSpec. No new Ginkgo It, Describe, Context, or When tests were added. The URL strings are validation inputs; the tests make no network connections and contain no IPv4 assumptions.

Full details: No-Weak-Crypto

Explanation

The pull-request diff adds GCP license validation, tests, API type metadata, and vendored generated files. No added code imports or uses MD5, SHA1, DES, 3DES, RC4, Blowfish, or ECB mode. No custom cryptography or secret/token comparisons were introduced.

Full details: Container-Privileges

Explanation

The reviewed range changes Go code, tests, dependency metadata, and vendored API files. It adds no container or workload manifest settings for privileged, hostPID, hostNetwork, hostIPC, SYS_ADMIN, root execution, or allowPrivilegeEscalation. The changed YAML files are generated API/CRD files, not pod or container manifests.

Full details: No-Sensitive-Data-In-Logs

Explanation

The pull request adds no logging calls. The changed webhook code only creates validation errors for GCP license values and returns them through admission. Added tests use placeholder values only; no passwords, tokens, API keys, PII, or customer data are logged.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 3 functions across 3 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Establish the fork’s supply-chain controls before merging.

This replacement redirects every github.com/openshift/api import to github.com/redhat-chai-bot/api. The exact pseudo-version and checksums provide reproducibility, but they do not establish license compatibility, OSV status, intended contents, or provenance. The reported content scan is never_attempted.
