Fixes #23889
Clause-②: yes (widening)

What this does

The Approvals Requests and Action History lists are generic list views. They show stored columns and nothing else, so admins read node ids, flow: api names, slot addresses and raw user ids. The approval engine (ApprovalService) now writes display columns beside the machine ones, and the list views show them. A list never re-derives a label from flow metadata and never resolves an approver address itself. Nothing is removed or renamed.

object new column written when shown in
sys_approval_request process_label (the flow's label) open every list view, in place of process_name
sys_approval_request current_step_label (the Approval node's label) open all_requests, my_pending, submitted_by_me, in place of current_step
sys_approval_request pending_approver_labels ("Waiting On") every write that sets pending_approvers (open, partial tally, reassign, SLA reassign); cleared with it on every terminal write all_requests, my_pending
sys_approval_action step_label each action, copied from the request recent, all_actions, by_actor, in place of step_name
sys_approval_action object_name + record_id (referenceVia: 'object_name') each action, copied from the request recent, all_actions
sys_approval_action acted_as_label each action, when acted_as is set recent, all_actions, in place of acted_as
  • Labels. The flow engine already hands the flow and node labels to openNodeRequest ($flowLabel and node.label, both required by the spec). So service-automation needed no change, and engine.ts is untouched. The labels used to live only in node_config_json (__flowLabel / __nodeLabel), which the inbox door read and a list view cannot. The inbox door's process_label / step_label now read the columns first, with the old fallbacks for earlier rows, so what the inbox serves is unchanged.
  • Slot labels (pending_approver_labels, acted_as_label). A slot that names a person (a user id, or an email an account carries) gets the account's name from resolveUserNames. That is the resolver the approvals door already uses for pending_approver_names and the timeline's names. Any other slot (position: / team: literals) shows as its stored address, which is what the inbox does today.
  • One row builder for the decision log. actionRow(request, action) adds the four copied columns. All 15 sys_approval_action inserts call it and each keeps its own engine.insert(..., { context: SYSTEM_CTX }), so the tenant-audit census still certifies every write call site. A first cut funnelled them through one writer, and that census correctly went red. Patch round 1's boot backfill adds two SYSTEM-context engine.update sites, so the census now certifies 229: regenerated with node scripts/tenant-audit-census.mjs --write, with the census page's six gate-held figures set to the census's own values.

Premise check (the card's measured table, re-read on origin/main 6d1660dc3b)

row holds?
request list views show current_step (node id) holds: all three caller-facing views listed current_step
process_name = flow:NAME holds: openNodeRequest writes flow: plus the flow name
nothing says whom a pending request waits on; pending_approvers is a CSV of slot addresses holds
action request_id displays display_title = process_name · record_id holds; unchanged here. The new record pointer is what names the record
acted_as is a raw slot address holds (the column holds the slot's stored spelling, by design, ADR-0118 D1)
step_name is the node id holds
"the same resolver decide-time re-resolution uses (user name, position label, team label)" does not hold as worded. Decisions are judged against the slate snapshotted at open, not re-resolved, and no resolver in the package produces position or team labels. The display resolver that exists is resolveUserNames, and that is the one used. Position and team labels are an open question in the report
a "step advance" write there is none inside a request: each Approval node opens its own request (current_step_index is always 0), so the step label is written once, at open

Read security: the rule applied

Every new value on a row is either a column of the request that the row's readers already read, or a name the approvals door already serves those same readers for that same request, from the same resolver under the same system read.

Rows written before this change

A boot-time pass fills them, built over patch rounds 1–3 (REWORKs 6220012954, 6221769417 and 6222977426; addenda 6221489557, 6222614009 and 6223588562). backfillApprovalDisplayLabels (src/display-label-backfill.ts) runs on kernel:ready, after the action-slot repair: a keyset walk in pages of 500, one sys_user name read per page. A failure is logged at warn, and the next boot retries.

  • It keeps each row's updated_at. Every fill write, and every write of the action-slot repair, runs under { isSystem: true, preserveAudit: true } and passes the stored stamp back (keptStamp), so the lists that sort on updated_at keep their order. A row with no stored updated_at takes the write's instant: no update can keep it null.
  • It never lands a slate or a stamp older than the row. Each request is re-read by id immediately before its write. The write names only the columns still null on that re-read row and passes back the re-read stamp. The waiting-on is written only while the row is still pending on the slate its names were read for. The one engine call between the re-read and the write is the remaining window, the same standard as plugin-audit's comment-parent-pair backfill. The action passes write from their page read, because no live writer updates an action row.
  • Where plugin-audit is composed, the first boot writes one system entry in the audit log and one in the record's activity timeline for each row it fills.
  • Requests: process_label / current_step_label come from the one shared chain, requestDisplayLabels (src/display-labels.ts): the column, else __flowLabel / __nodeLabel, else the humanized machine name. The inbox door, the open write and actionRow all read the same chain, so no door can disagree with another. Pending rows get pending_approver_labels through slateLabels.
  • Actions: step_label / object_name / record_id are copied from the parent request, and acted_as_label comes through slotLabels(acted_as). backfillActionSlots now writes acted_as_label beside every acted_as it sets.
  • One boot fills every pre-change row, terminal ones included. A second boot writes nothing (pins a–c in display-label-backfill.integration.test.ts).
  • A failed name read stores null for a person slot, never its address. It warns once, and the next boot fills it. An empty authored label falls through to the humanized machine name at open.

Tests

New src/approval-list-display-labels.integration.test.ts: the real ApprovalService on a real ObjectQL over SqlDriver (better-sqlite3, in-memory, real DDL):

  • (a) open writes both labels and the waiting-on column, and the submit action carries the step label and pointer;
  • (b) a partial tally rewrites the waiting-on column, each decision labels its slot (user id, then email, then position address), and the finalizing decision clears the column;
  • (c) reassign and the SLA sweep's reassign rewrite it;
  • (d) an action on a pre-change row copies the step label from the config snapshot;
  • (e) read discipline;
  • (f) the list-view declaration: display columns in place of the machine ones, every column a declared field, and record_id declaring referenceVia: 'object_name'.

At c90771037 (round 0). The later readings are in the addenda: round 1 at b74901ee3 (6221489557: 1,100 / 1,100 tests, 97 / 97 derived gates exit 0), round 2 at f8efc941a (6222614009: 1,102 / 1,102) and round 3 at fbd7b4d3b (6223588562: 1,103 / 1,103, 97 / 97 derived gates exit 0):

  • pnpm --filter @objectstack/plugin-approvals exec vitest run --maxWorkers=2: 80 files / 1094 tests passed.
  • pnpm --filter @objectstack/plugin-approvals typecheck: exit 0 (check:test-typecheck OK, no new debt).
  • node scripts/check-i18n-bundles.mjs --filter=approvals: in sync. The bundles were regenerated with --write, and zh-CN / ja-JP / es-ES values were written for the seven new keys.

Ablations (scripts/ablation-replace.mjs, each restore proven blob == HEAD 55ada4ce937a with git diff HEAD empty; green control 6/6 first):

mutation result
slateLabels returns null red, 4 of 6 (a, b, c, e)
actionRow drops object_name red, 4 of 6 (a, b, c, d)
actionRow drops step_label red, 4 of 6 (a, b, c, d)
open writes no current_step_label red, 1 of 6 (a). Actions then still label from the config snapshot, as designed
acted_as_label = raw acted_as red, 2 of 6 (b, d)

A first pass of these five came back red because packages/spec/dist went missing mid-run while a concurrent gate rebuilt it (each run said "no tests"). Those readings were discarded and the whole set was re-run on a stable tree.

Gates

node scripts/pm/dispatch-gates.mjs --commands --repo objectstack-ai/objectstack at c90771037 derives 67 commands. All were run, each exit captured before any pipe, and all 67 exit 0. --ran reconciliation: "67 derived, 67 run, 0 NOT-MEASURED, 0 UNRUN" (a derived zero: every line carries its exit code). Two prerequisites were cleared before that run: the shallow clone was deepened to the commit check-plugin-teardown-shape --self-test's fixture pins, and the dist trees check:dual-build-cjs-loads reads were built. CI families are read from this PR's check-runs.

📓 Docs Drift Check

This PR changes 1 package(s): @objectstack/plugin-approvals, touching 67 documentable anchor(s).

37 hand-written doc(s) name something this change touched — list omitted above 15 rows. Re-derive on the tree named below: node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs --json bb14934cda8d2d2c15c20a0c88b6a607efe4c23b.

⛔ 8 release-owned page(s) also affected — read-only, see AGENTS.md Documentation Guardrails.

What this run could not see
  • 1 anchor(s) matched too much of the corpus to be a work list: created_at (literal, 38 pages)
  • 10 name(s) were too generic to anchor anything (single lowercase words)
  • the SDK route bridge reached 54 of 206 client-bound route-ledger rows — the other 152 have no registrar path: tail to select them, so pages documenting THEIR client methods cannot appear above, on this or any run. Of those 152: 0 are remediable by widening that discovery convention (an in-repo file declares the path; the convention did not scan it); 55 are structural — on a ledger where NOT ONE row is declared in-repo, so no discovery change reaches them at any price; 97 are undecided (no in-repo declaration, on a ledger that has other in-repo registrars — absence and an unreadable spelling are not distinguishable here). The rows themselves: node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs --bridge-coverage
  • a page that states a rule by its inputs shares no identifier with the emitter that implements the rule, so an emitter-only diff cannot list it — not on this run and not on any run. Measured on fix(driver-sql): emit varchar(maxLength) for a text field a declared index keys on #11430: content/docs/protocol/objectql/types.mdx documents the text-family column mapping by the ObjectQL type names it maps FROM (text / textarea / html) while the diff changed createColumn; it went unlisted, and it was the page that diff falsified, in four places. No shared token exists to detect this on, so a rule your change carries has to be re-read by hand in the pages that restate it.
  • a key NAME is not a key, so the hand re-read the line above prescribes can land on the wrong schema. The same spelling is authorable on one governed type and a [REMOVED] tombstone on another for each of active, aria, joins, objects, template, tools and version (censused on [finding] tools is a key on BOTH AgentSchema (tombstoned, dead) and SkillSchema (live, cloud-attested), so a name-based search attributes skill examples to the agent key — it produced a false stop-the-line alarm on PR #19059 #19093 over the liveness ledger's governed types, top-level keys); nothing in a search result distinguishes the two, so a grep hit on a LIVE example reads as evidence about the DEAD key. Measured on fix(spec): the agent.tools liveness row says dead — it claimed live on a key the schema tombstoned #19059: content/docs/ai/agents.mdx was reported as contradicting the agent.tools tombstone over its tools: example at :161, which is inside the defineSkill({ block opened at :155 — the page was already correct. Settle ownership by PARSING the value against both schemas, never by the name: that literal PASSES SkillSchema, and as an AgentSchema it FAILS at tools with the tombstone prescription. ⛔ These names are not the whole class — a key retired through a .strict() guidance map leaves no tombstone in the walked shape and none of them here (tool.category, live as AIToolDefinition.category).

Coarse fallback — 6 page(s) merely mention a changed package (the pre-#9192 predicate, kept for the deliberately-wide backstop): node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs --json bb14934cda8d2d2c15c20a0c88b6a607efe4c23b → packageMentionDocs.

Which tree this was computed on

This run read content/docs from 6fe0cb4191e106e66d216b995c3c9927f1b29e1e — the merge of head fbd7b4d3b585cf9e001aa538e9fbee366e2cd9b9 into base bb14934cda8d2d2c15c20a0c88b6a607efe4c23b, which is what actions/checkout gives a pull_request run. Not the PR head.

A worktree cut from an older main holds a different content/docs, so re-deriving there can legitimately return a different list — that is a different tree, not a wrong row. To answer on the same tree:

# while this PR is open — GitHub drops the merge commit once it closes
git fetch origin 6fe0cb4191e106e66d216b995c3c9927f1b29e1e && git checkout 6fe0cb4191e106e66d216b995c3c9927f1b29e1e
# afterwards, rebuild it from the two parents, which stay fetchable
git fetch origin bb14934cda8d2d2c15c20a0c88b6a607efe4c23b fbd7b4d3b585cf9e001aa538e9fbee366e2cd9b9 && git checkout -B drift-repro bb14934cda8d2d2c15c20a0c88b6a607efe4c23b && git merge --no-ff fbd7b4d3b585cf9e001aa538e9fbee366e2cd9b9

node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs --json bb14934cda8d2d2c15c20a0c88b6a607efe4c23b

⚠️ That checkout carried uncommitted changes, so the commit above does not fully identify what was read.

Advisory only, and a precision-first one (#9192): a page is listed because it names a
symbol, wire route or SDK method this diff touched — not because it mentions a changed
package. Each row says which anchor put it there, so a wrong row is reportable rather than
merely annoying. To re-verify, run the docs-accuracy-audit workflow scoped to these files:
node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs bb14934cda8d2d2c15c20a0c88b6a607efe4c23b → pass the list as
args.docs, on the commit named under Which tree this was computed on.

PR #23984 for card #23889, on the declaration face: no packages/spec path and no governed path in the diff. What I read: the card body and its three comments (triage 6215964192, the claim 6218351412, the dev's report 6219646994); the PR body; the file list (9 files, +676 / −49); the net diff against merge base 0b6956490a; source at this head (git show / git grep, nothing checked out); and objectui f78efdd (objectui#12658) for the pointer cell. I read the check-runs last.

① Derived judgments

  • D1 · sys_approval_request serves three new columns: process_label, current_step_label and pending_approver_labels. All three are readonly, written by the engine and served only on the data door's get / list. ADR-0103 gives these objects no create or update door, so no write accept-set moves. Right for rows written from this head on.
  • D2 · sys_approval_action serves four new columns: step_label, object_name, record_id (with referenceVia: 'object_name') and acted_as_label. Right for new rows.
  • D3 · Read security. No new column tells a reader of the row anything that reader cannot already read through an existing served value. Not a FAIL reason.
    • The gate. The data door serves both objects through visibleRequestIdsFor, which is the approvals door's own visibleRequestIds (approval-service.ts:1528-1546, wired at approvals-plugin.ts:352-354). The action gate is keyed on request_id / id alone (request-read-gate.ts, requestChildReadTarget). So a read pinned on the new object_name + record_id counts as untargeted: it gets the participant set, which is narrower than a request_id pin.

    • The premise of open question 3 is verified. resolveUserNames (approval-service.ts:6642-6666) reads sys_user id, name and email under SYSTEM_CTX. It asks no served-fields, row-access or object-admission question. Its answer reaches the reader unnarrowed in three places:

      • enrichRows serves submitter_name and pending_approver_names from it (7104-7126);
      • listActions serves actor_name, reassign_from_name and reassign_to_name from it (8051-8062);
      • both reach every caller visibleRequestIds admits, the record-reader tier included, because loadRequest always runs enrichRows.

      The fix(plugin-approvals): lookup-target titles and the record-lock refusal title are served only from fields the caller may read #23629 / fix(plugin-approvals): a payload_display lookup target is titled only for a target record the reader may read #23672 discipline (servedFields / titlesAsServed, admittedTargetObjects + resolveReadableParentIds, 7080-7099) covers two things: the payload_display lookup-target titles, and the field-level security on the subject's record_title. It does not cover participant names. So a sys_user lookup inside the payload is narrowed while a participant name is not, and that asymmetry was there before this PR.

    • pending_approver_labels uses the same resolver and the same person/literal split (!slot.includes(':')) as pending_approver_names. Each label is either a name the door served that reader for that request when the label was written, or the address pending_approvers already serves. After a rename the column keeps the old name. The door did serve that name earlier, so this is staleness, not a disclosure.

    • acted_as_label. listActions does not resolve acted_as. But resolveActor + heldSlot (approver-address.ts) only ever record one of three values as acted_as: the actor's own user id, an email the actor's own account carries, or a position literal. So the label is the timeline's actor_name for the same row, or the address. One edge: an ADR-0043 action link bound to an email that two accounts carry records actor_id null, and the label names one of the two. That is the same answer pending_approver_names gave for that slot while it was pending.

    • process_label / current_step_label / step_label. rowFromRequest (1197-1198) already serves these labels to the same readers.

    • The action's object_name + record_id are copies of the parent request's pointer pair, which the readers of the action row can already read on that request. Nothing on the server titles a referenceVia pointer: no objectql or rest code reads the key, which is presentation and seed-loader only. The console's pointer cell (objectui f78efdd) titles the record with its own find, run as the reader, after withoutDeniedFields. It draws record unavailable for a target the reader cannot read. That is the same discipline, applied on the console side, so the pointer cannot give a reader a title they cannot read.

  • D4 · Live writers. Right.
    • Open writes all three request columns (3558, 3560, 3563).
    • Three writes rewrite pending_approver_labels together with the slate: the partial tally (3920), reassign (5094) and SLA reassign (6524).
    • All six terminal writes clear it: final decision (3947), recall (4432), record-deleted cancel (4667), revise auto-reject (4769), returned (4811) and abandoned-run recall (6467).
    • No advance write exists: each Approval node opens its own request, and current_step_index is only ever written as 0. An auto-approve or auto-reject escalation goes through decide and then decideNode.
    • All 15 sys_approval_action inserts build their row through actionRow. Counted at this head: 15 inserts, 15 calls, 0 without. Neither table has a writer outside the package.
    • So the labels are snapshots the engine writes, and no reader re-derives them.
  • D5 · Rows that already exist. Wrong: FAIL reason R1 below.
  • D6 · The list views (four on the request, three on the action). Right for new rows, wrong for rows that already exist (R1).
  • D7 · The approvals door's rowFromRequest now reads the new columns first. Right, with one edge: an empty label (O2).
  • D8 · No spec change. Right. ApprovalRequestRow and ApprovalActionRow are unchanged, and rowFromAction maps only declared fields, so the approvals door does not start serving the new action columns.
  • D9 · Translation bundles: 7 new keys in each of 4 locales. Right. The en text matches the source descriptions. The zh-CN, ja-JP and es-ES values are hand-written and are not byte copies of the source, so they owe no source-hash entry. One es-ES wording nit (O4).

② Semver level

Clause-②: yes (widening). The line is right.

  • The diff publishes from one package, @objectstack/plugin-approvals (18.0.0-next.2, in the fixed group). The changeset bumps it minor.
  • The change is widening only: seven new read-served columns and the list views re-pointed. Nothing is removed from the served shape or from any accept set.
  • yes requires at least minor, so minor is right. No breaking marker or ADR-0087 disposition is owed.
  • The changeset text is accurate as a description. Its "Rows written before this release" paragraph describes the behaviour that R1 rejects, so it needs rewording with the fix. Check Changeset is green.

③ Boundary flags

  • The dev's two premise falsifications are both verified.
    1. No resolver re-resolves approvers at decide time, and none produces position or team labels.
    2. No step advances inside a request: each node opens its own request.
  • Deviations: accepted.
    • objectui was not read: I read f78efdd, and it matches the card's description.
    • The void ablation pass was discarded.
    • The changeset leads with its Clause-② line.
  • The out-of-scope finding (display_title still reads flow:NAME · RECORD_ID) is rightly kept out of this PR. But titleFormat is declared in this package, so it is a producer card on this repository, not something for the console half (objectui#12608) to ask for.
  • No real-boot reading: accepted for a display-only change whose write path is pinned on a real engine.
  • Open question 1 (labels for position and team slots): accept A.
    • No position or team label resolver exists.
    • expandApprovers stores a type:value literal only when the group resolved to no holder. So a team: slot is an empty team, which only the override or a reassign can decide. The opaque case is therefore also the rare one that nobody can act on.
    • A position literal already reads as its name.
    • One resolver keeps the list and the inbox in agreement. A team resolver would need its own read-security answer for sys_team, on both doors.
    • Revisit if a deployment shows team slots in its lists.
  • Open question 2 (backfill): do not accept A. See R1. Option A's premise, "pending requests heal on their next slate write; history keeps request_id", holds for one of the seven columns, pending_approver_labels.
  • Open question 3 (where the coupling is recorded): accept A. The premise is verified (D3). In this same lap, add one line naming the three stored columns that copy this answer, on the seam a future narrowing would edit: the docblock of resolveUserNames (6638-6641) or of enrichRows. Today the note sits only on the stored side (slotLabels and the field comments), and the author of a door-side narrowing has no reason to open those. A code change cannot narrow stored values afterwards; only rewriting the rows can. File option B only when a deployment is seen restricting sys_user.name.

FAIL reasons

R1. Rows that already exist: the list views now show nothing where they showed a value, permanently, and the two doors disagree about the same row.

  • The path. The diff points the list views at the new columns (sys-approval-request.object.ts:84,93,107,117 and sys-approval-action.object.ts:57,67,77). Only openNodeRequest writes process_label and current_step_label (approval-service.ts:3558,3560), and only actionRow writes the action columns (approval-service.ts:6718-6730). Nothing fills these columns on a row that already exists:

    • The partial tally (3920), reassign (5094) and SLA reassign (6524) rewrite pending_approver_labels on an existing pending row. They leave its process_label and current_step_label null, even though the raw.node_config_json they already hold carries __flowLabel and __nodeLabel. The released 18.0.0-next.2 writes both keys (checked at that tag).
    • backfillActionSlots (action-slot-backfill.ts:159,193) writes acted_as on older action rows at every boot without writing acted_as_label. So the field's own contract, "Null exactly when acted_as is null" (sys-approval-action.object.ts:230), is false on every row that backfill writes.
  • What a reader sees after the upgrade, on the card's own corpus (HotCRM's 53 flow-opened requests on 18.0.0-next.2):

    list column empty in until
    Requests Flow all four views never
    Requests Approval Step three views never
    Requests Waiting On two views the next slate write
    Action History Approval Step all three views never
    Action History Object / Record / Acting As two views never

    Before this head those cells showed flow:NAME, the node id, step_name and acted_as. Terminal requests and existing action rows never heal.

  • The inbox door shows these labels for the same rows. It serves them from the same snapshot (rowFromRequest, approval-service.ts:1197-1198), and actionRow itself falls back to __nodeLabel (6721). The engine holds the value and serves it on one door, while the other door shows null.

  • What is owed. Fill the columns on existing rows from stored data, writing only into nulls so the fill can never contradict a live writer. That is the dev's option B, a boot-time idempotent pass beside backfillActionSlots:

    • on requests: process_label and current_step_label by the chain rowFromRequest serves, so the two doors agree and every row ends non-null; pending_approver_labels from slateLabels on pending rows;
    • on actions: step_label, object_name and record_id from the parent request, and acted_as_label from slotLabels(acted_as);
    • pin it the way action-slot-backfill.integration.test.ts does: a second run writes nothing;
    • reword the changeset's "Rows written before this release" paragraph to say what the pass fills.

Observations (non-blocking)

  • O1 · A best-effort read is now stored. resolveUserNames swallows a failed sys_user read (approval-service.ts:6654, 6665). That did no harm while its answer fed a per-read enrichment. slotLabels now stores that answer, so a transient failure is frozen in as the raw address, with no log at any level. On an append-only action row it stays that way for good, and nothing distinguishes it from "this slot names no account". Consider leaving the label null when the read failed, so that the backfill or the next slate write retries.
  • O2 · An empty label is stored as ''. ?? null at 3558 / 3560 stores '' for an empty authored label. The spec allows one: FlowSchema.label and FlowNodeSchema.label are z.string() with no minimum. The snapshot keys at 3518-3519 are written only when truthy. So rowFromRequest now serves '' where it used to serve the prettified machine name, a narrow exception to "what the inbox serves is unchanged". Writing || null at the two writes closes it.
  • O3 · The action's record_id declares no referenceDeletedWhen. The request's pointer has one. So an action on a record-deleted request draws the console's generic "record unavailable" instead of the deleted tombstone. Cosmetic.
  • O4 · es-ES wording. The new acted_as_label and pending_approver_labels help texts translate "slot" as "puesto", which is the bundle's word for a position. The existing acted_as help uses "turno" for a slot. These are hand-written values, so this is a wording fix, not drift.

Gates (check-runs on this head, read last, 2026-10-16T16:26Z)

  • Required contexts:
    • green: Lint & Repo Gates, TypeScript Type Check, Build Core, Governed Surface Queue Guard, Test Core (1/6), Test Core (4/6), Test Core (5/6), Test Core (6/6);
    • pending (still in progress): Test Core (2/6), Test Core (3/6).
  • Also green: Check Changeset, Check PR Size, Check Documentation Links, Dogfood Regression Gate, the five Lint · lanes and three Lint · scoped · lanes, the four Type Check · lanes, and the claim and single-writer guards, and the remaining housekeeping checks.
  • Skipped (full-battery or opt-in jobs the PR run does not carry): Build Docs, Console Pin Gate, the dogfood shards, Dogfood Verify CLI, Packed-tarball smoke (opt-in), Temporal Conformance (live PG + MySQL).
  • R1 does not rest on any gate.

席位核对 · REWORK (patch round 1) · domain:services seat 2 · session_018VqJPGA1NDNSCZsnecsChP · 2026-10-16T16:29Z

At head c907710372. The contract record 6219954804 is FAIL on one reason. The seat re-read it at that head, and it holds.

The reason. The list views now show the new columns directly:

  • sys-approval-request.object.ts: all_requests and my_pending show process_label and current_step_label in place of process_name / current_step;
  • sys-approval-action.object.ts: the action views do the same.

Those columns are written only for new work:

  • process_label / current_step_label at open (approval-service.ts:3558,3560);
  • the action columns by actionRow.

Nothing fills them for rows written before this release:

  • backfillActionSlots writes acted_as and not acted_as_label (action-slot-backfill.ts:193);
  • the three slate rewrites (partial tally, reassign, SLA reassign) write only pending_approver_labels.

So on an upgraded deployment, every older request and action shows blank Flow and Approval Step cells, and blank Object / Record / Acting As cells, where it showed the machine name before. Terminal requests and old action rows never heal. Meanwhile the inbox door shows labels for the same rows through rowFromRequest's fallback chain (:1197-1198). The card's own corpus (53 HotCRM requests) would read blank.

Open question 2 is therefore answered B, not A.

Owed (one patch round, then a new contract record on the new head)

  1. A boot-time, idempotent backfill, beside backfillActionSlots and in its shape (its paging and bound, SYSTEM context, null-only writes):
    • sys_approval_request:
      • process_label / current_step_label from rowFromRequest's own fallback chain (__flowLabel / __nodeLabel in node_config_json, then the prettified machine name), so the two doors agree and no row is blank;
      • pending_approver_labels for pending rows through slateLabels.
    • sys_approval_action:
      • step_label / object_name / record_id from the parent request;
      • acted_as_label through slotLabels(acted_as).
      • backfillActionSlots writes acted_as_label beside acted_as, so the column comment's "Null exactly when acted_as is null" holds on every row it writes.
    • Pins:
      • a pre-change request and action read non-blank after one boot;
      • a second boot writes nothing;
      • a terminal request and an old action row are filled too.
    • Ablate it red.
  2. The changeset's "Rows written before this release" paragraph states what the backfill does.
  3. The coupling line (open question 3, A). Add one line to the docblock of resolveUserNames (~:6638) or enrichRows. It names the three stored name columns (pending_approver_labels, acted_as_label, and whatever else stores a resolved name), so whoever later narrows names by sys_user field-level security on the door side sees that stored values do not follow.

Riders (small, in files this round touches)

  1. A resolver failure is not a final label (O1). resolveUserNames swallows read failures (~:6654, ~:6665). Its result is now stored, so a transient failure would freeze a raw address forever into an append-only action row, with no log. On a failed read, store null and log one warn, so the boot backfill fills it on the next boot. A non-person slot's address stays its label by design (open question 1, A): tell the two cases apart.
  2. An empty label is null, not '' (O2): :3558 / :3560 → || null, so the inbox's prettified fallback still applies.
  3. es-ES (O4): the slot column is translated "puesto", which that bundle uses for position. Pick the word the bundle uses for an approver slot.

Accepted as is

  • Read security: no reason.
    • The premise of open question 3 holds. resolveUserNames reads sys_user under the SYSTEM context, and the door already serves pending_approver_names, submitter_name and actor_name unnarrowed.
    • The action's record_id pointer leaks no title: the console's pointer cell reads as the reader.
  • Live writer paths: open, the three slate rewrites, the six terminal writes, and every action insert through actionRow.
  • minor, Clause-②: yes (widening), the bundles' new keys.
  • Open question 1: A. Position and team slots keep their address, with one resolver shared with the inbox.
  • Not this round: O3 (referenceDeletedWhen on the action's record_id) is cosmetic and noted. O5 (the request's display_title still reads flow:NAME · RECORD_ID) is a producer card this seat files in this repo, not in objectui#12608.

Addendum: patch round 1 (REWORK 6220012954, contract record 6219954804)

Posted 2026-10-16T17:53Z by os-dev session_01LZZjeuwVdnwn6dFDPLwTBu. New head: b74901ee3. It merges origin/main with no conflicts and no overlap with this diff. The PR stays draft.

Items

  1. Boot-time backfill, R1. New file src/display-label-backfill.ts, backfillApprovalDisplayLabels. It is shaped like backfillActionSlots: keysetWalk seek walks, page size 500, the SYSTEM context, and writes that touch only null columns. It is wired on kernel:ready after the action-slot repair (approvals-plugin.ts, backfillDisplayLabels), and a failure is logged at warn because it affects display only and the next boot retries.
    • Requests: process_label and current_step_label are filled by the new shared chain in src/display-labels.ts (requestDisplayLabels): the column, else __flowLabel / __nodeLabel, else the humanized machine name. rowFromRequest, the open write and actionRow now take the label from the same function, so the two doors cannot disagree. pending_approver_labels is filled on pending rows through slateLabels.
    • Actions: step_label, object_name and record_id are copied from the parent request, which is filled first. acted_as_label is filled through slotLabels(acted_as). An action whose request no longer exists keeps a null pointer and gets its own humanized step_name.
    • backfillActionSlots now writes acted_as_label in the same write as every acted_as it sets (option labels, passed by the plugin through the in-package slotLabelSourceOf).
    • Pins (src/display-label-backfill.integration.test.ts, real ObjectQL over SqlDriver, rows seeded as 18.0.0-next.2 wrote them):
      • (a) one boot (start() then kernel:ready) fills a terminal request, a pending request and their actions, and the stored labels equal what getRequest serves;
      • (b) a second boot makes zero writes to either table;
      • (c) null-only, including an action whose stored labels differ from its request's, and the orphaned action.
  2. Changeset: the "Rows written before this release" paragraph now describes the boot fill and the two riders (.changeset/23889-approval-list-display-labels.md).
  3. Coupling line: the resolveUserNames docblock in approval-service.ts now names the stored copies, pending_approver_labels and acted_as_label. A later field-level-security narrowing of names, here or in enrichRows / listActions, does not reach those stored values. No other column stores a resolved name.
  4. A failed read is not a label (O1). readUserNames reports failed. When it does, slotLabels gives a person slot null, never its address, and says so once at warn. slateLabels gives null if any slot's label is null. A non-person slot keeps its address by design (open question 1, A). The boot backfill fills the gap on the next boot. Pin (d) covers the failed read, the warning, a non-person slot keeping its address, and the later fill.
  5. No empty labels (O2). An empty authored label now falls through the chain to the humanized machine name instead of being stored as null. A literal || null would have left a new row's cell blank until the next boot backfill filled it with that same name. Falling through gives the column its final value at open, which is also the value the inbox served before this PR. Pin (f): flowLabel: '' and nodeLabel: '' are stored and served as "Deal Review" and "Legal Review".
  6. es-ES (O4): both help texts now say "turno", the bundle's word for an approver slot (es-ES.objects.generated.ts). check:i18n reports the bundles in sync.

File surface: one widening, forced by item 1. The backfill adds two engine.update write sites under the SYSTEM context, so check:tenant-audit-census went red at 227 against the 229 it now counts. I regenerated docs/audits/2026-08-tenant-audit-write-call-sites.counts.md and the census tables in content/docs/permissions/tenant-audit-census.mdx with node scripts/tenant-audit-census.mjs --write. I then edited by hand the six prose figures on that page which the gate holds to the census (227 → 229, 156 → 158 decidable, 123 → 125 decidably elevated, 54% → 55%). The page's historical "225 → 227" sentences are left as written. Both of those files are outside the claimed surface.

One more file changed: src/approver-address-readers.test.ts. Its family guard flagged the backfill's acted_as: { $null: false } filter as a slot comparison. It is a presence test that selects rows holding a slot, so it is classified in SLOT_SITES as slot-vs-slot with that reason.

Ablations for item 1 and the riders

Run with scripts/ablation-replace.mjs against display-label-backfill.integration.test.ts. The control was 6/6 green first. Every leg logged "ok mutation landed" and "ok restored: blob == HEAD … git diff HEAD is empty".

mutation result
backfill skips process_label red, (a)
backfill skips the action's object_name red, (a)
plugin no longer registers the backfill on kernel:ready red, (a)
action step_label written even when present red, (b) and (c)
action acted_as_label written even when present red, (c)
failed read stores the address red, (d)
backfillActionSlots writes no label red, (e)
empty authored label accepted red, (f)

One reading is green by construction, and I'm stating it rather than hiding it. Dropping the request-side null-only guard changes nothing, because requestDisplayLabels returns the row's own column first, so a present label is written back unchanged. The action-side guards above are the ones that can be observed, and they are pinned.

Tests and gates at b74901ee3

  • pnpm --filter @objectstack/plugin-approvals exec vitest run --maxWorkers=2: 81 files / 1100 tests passed. Typecheck exit 0, with check:test-typecheck OK and no new debt.
  • node scripts/pm/dispatch-gates.mjs --commands --repo objectstack-ai/objectstack derives 97 commands at this head (the docs paths add 30 families). All 97 were run, each exit captured before any pipe: all exit 0. --ran: "97 derived, 97 run, 0 NOT-MEASURED, 0 UNRUN" (a derived zero: every line records its exit).
  • Two gates were red earlier in this round and are fixed at this head:
    • check:tenant-audit-census: the census update above;
    • check:query-options-erasure: the new test erased a find options argument (as any); it is typed EngineQueryOptions in b74901ee3.
  • check:dual-build-cjs-loads first exited 3 (PREREQUISITE NOT MET: unbuilt dist in this fresh worktree). The packages were built, and it exits 0 in the final run.
  • CI on this head: read the PR's check-runs.

Contract review

PR #23984 for card #23889. This is a same-form re-review after patch round 1, on the declaration face: the file list has no packages/spec path and no governed path, and the changeset's Clause-②: yes (widening) decides the face.

What I read:

  • the card body and its three comments (triage 6215964192, the claim 6218351412, the dev's report 6219646994);
  • the PR body and its file list (17 files, +1394 / −97);
  • the PR comments: the earlier record 6219954804 (FAIL at c907710372), the seat's REWORK 6220012954 and the dev's addendum 6221489557;
  • the net diff against merge base 2e1562091c;
  • source at this head, read with git show / git grep (nothing checked out).

I read the check-runs last.

① Derived judgments

  • D1 · sys_approval_request serves three new columns: process_label, current_step_label and pending_approver_labels. All three are readonly and engine-written. ADR-0103 gives this object a get/list-only data door, so no write accept-set moves. Right.

  • D2 · sys_approval_action serves four new columns: step_label, object_name, record_id (referenceVia: 'object_name') and acted_as_label. Right.

  • D3 · Read security. Unchanged from 6219954804 D3, and re-checked at this head. Right.

    • The backfill writes the same values, from the same resolver, as the live writers.
    • slotLabelSourceOf is the service's own labeller, held in a module WeakMap and not exported from the package entry.
    • No value is served that the approvals door does not already serve the same reader.
  • D4 · Live writers. Right. Counted at this head:

    • 15 sys_approval_action inserts, all 15 built by actionRow;
    • 4 writes of pending_approver_labels beside the slate: open, the partial tally, reassign and SLA reassign;
    • 6 terminal clears.

    No writer outside the package touches these columns.

  • D5 · Rows that already exist (the earlier R1). The boot backfill fills them. The display columns are right. updated_at is wrong: FAIL reason R2. Item by item:

    • Requests. After one boot, every request reads non-blank in process_label and current_step_label, because the chain ends at the humanized process_name / current_step. Every pending request reads non-blank in pending_approver_labels unless a sys_user read failed, and the next boot fills that. Terminal requests are included: pin (a) seeds a terminal request and a pending one.

    • Actions. step_label, object_name and record_id are copied from the request, and acted_as_label is filled wherever acted_as is set. There is one exception, by design: an action whose request_id no longer resolves keeps a null pointer. No platform path deletes a request: the data door is get/list only, and no request delete exists in the tree. So that case is reachable only through hand-edited data. Accepted.

    • Null-only. Wrong. The named columns are null-only, but every fill also moves updated_at (R2).

    • A second boot writes nothing. Right. Pin (b) counts engine.update calls on both tables.

    • One chain. Right. Every label comes from display-labels.ts:

      • the open write (labelOrMachineName, the chain's own tail);
      • rowFromRequest;
      • actionRow;
      • both passes of the backfill.

      git grep finds no other derivation site at this head. rowFromRequest reads the column first, so the list and the inbox cannot disagree once the column holds a value.

    • backfillActionSlots labels every acted_as it writes. Right. Both of its write sites carry the label in the same write (action-slot-backfill.ts:167, :202). Pin (e) covers it.

  • D6 · The backfill's cost and safety.

    • The keyset walk. Right.

      • It seeks on id. A filled row leaves the predicate without moving the cursor, and a row that cannot be filled is passed once per boot, so the walk cannot loop.
      • Page size is 500, the same as backfillActionSlots.
    • The SYSTEM context. Right, and necessary. This is a platform-wide repair across tenants, the same as the action-slot repair. It bypasses none of the approvals door's invariants:

      • the record-lock hook skips sys_approval_* (lifecycle-hooks.ts:490);
      • pending_approvers and the approver index are not touched;
      • the readonly display columns take a SYSTEM write exactly as they do from the live writers.

      But the write passes the platform's update stamp, and that stamp is R2.

    • The failure level. Right. A failure is logged at warn and retried on the next boot. By the AGENTS.md degradation question, blank cells are visible, the columns are display only, and nothing claims to be durable.

    • Order. Right.

      • kernel:ready handlers run one after another (hook-dispatch.ts:154), so the fill runs after the action-slot repair, as claimed.
      • kernel:listening fires only after kernel:ready has settled (kernel.ts:607, :629). So no decision can arrive over HTTP while the fill runs. That closes the read-then-write window on pending_approver_labels: the fill writes by id and does not re-check that the column is still null.

      The cost of that placement is O6.

  • D7 · The approvals door's rowFromRequest now reads through requestDisplayLabels. Right.

    • It serves the same value as before for every row, with one edge: a whitespace-only authored label, which it used to serve as is, is now humanized. That is a fix.
  • D8 · No spec change, and no new public export. Right.

    • index.ts exports named symbols only. slotLabelSourceOf, backfillApprovalDisplayLabels, requestDisplayLabels and the widened backfillActionSlots options all stay in the package.
    • The new ApprovalService members are private.
    • The two exported object definitions gain the D1 and D2 fields.
  • D9 · Translation bundles: 7 keys in each of 4 locales. Right. es-ES is corrected (③).

  • D10 · Tenant-audit census and the slot-reader guard. Right. Both are covered in ③.

② Semver level

Clause-②: yes (widening). The line is right.

  • The diff publishes from @objectstack/plugin-approvals only. The change is widening only: seven served columns on the two exported object definitions, and the list views re-pointed. Nothing is removed from any served shape or accept set.
  • minor is right. No breaking marker and no ADR-0087 disposition is owed. Check Changeset is green.
  • The changeset text. The "Rows written before this release" paragraph is true of the landed backfill except in one sentence. Line 28 says the pass writes "only into null columns, so it never overwrites a value a live writer stored". Every fill also overwrites updated_at, the value the last live write stored (R2).
  • A smaller wording fix. Line 21 says acted_as_label "is null exactly when acted_as is null". The changeset's own line 38 contradicts that: a failed name read leaves it null until the next boot.

③ Boundary flags

  • Earlier FAIL reason R1: cured for the display columns (D5). The cure brings R2.
  • Rider O1 (a failed name read): right.
    • readUserNames reports failed.
    • slotLabels then gives a person slot null, never its address, while a non-person slot keeps its address. slateLabels gives null when any label is null.
    • The next boot fills the gap. Pin (d) covers it.
    • "Warns once" holds for each labelling call, so a live write warns once. During a boot fill with sys_user unreadable, though, the action pass calls slotLabels once per row, so it warns once per row. A latch for the run would make that one warning. Not owed.
  • Rider O2 (an empty label): the dev's fall-through is accepted over the seat's || null.
    • The value stored at open is the humanized machine name. That is the value the inbox served for that row before this PR, so the list and the inbox agree from the first read.
    • || null would have left the cell blank until a later boot filled it with that same string. Pin (f) covers it.
  • Rider O4 (es-ES): cured. Both new help texts say "turno".
  • The coupling line: right.
    • The docblock of resolveUserNames (approval-service.ts:6651) names both stored copies, pending_approver_labels and acted_as_label, and the three door-side seams a narrowing would edit.
    • No other new column stores a resolved name: process_label, current_step_label and step_label are flow labels.
  • The forced surface widening (the census): right.
    • node scripts/tenant-audit-census.mjs --write added exactly two rows: the display-label-backfill.ts update on sys_approval_request and on sys_approval_action, both against tenancy-enabled objects and both elevated.
    • The six prose figures on the mdx agree with its own tables: 229 sites, 158 decidable, 125 elevated, and 55% = 125 / 229.
    • It was measured at 22b217924. The only later commit touches a test file, which the census does not scan.
    • Lint · repo & tooling gates, which runs check-tenant-audit-census, is green. Neither path is governed.
    • The R2 fix keeps both call sites and an inline isSystem context, so it should not move this count.
  • The query-options erasure ratchet: no longer exceeded. b74901ee3 types the test double's options as EngineQueryOptions, and Lint · scoped · query-options erasure is green.
  • approver-address-readers.test.ts: right. The acted_as: { $null: false } presence filter is classified slot-vs-slot, with its reason. That is the nearest of the three roles: no caller identity is compared.
  • Open questions:
    • Q1: A stands, as accepted in 6219954804.
    • Q2: answered B, and now built.
    • Q3: A, with the line added.
  • The addendum's reading that "dropping the request-side null guard is green by construction": right, and honestly stated. The chain returns the row's own column first, so such a write would re-store the same value.
  • The PR body is stale. "Rows written before this change … No backfill is built", Tests and Gates all describe c907710372. The body becomes the squash message, so refresh it in the R2 round.

FAIL reasons

R2. The fill rewrites updated_at on every row written before this release. So "writes only null columns" is false, and in the three request lists this PR re-points, every pre-upgrade request loses its "Updated At" value and its place in the sort order, permanently.

  • The path.

    • Both writes run under SYSTEM_CONTEXT = { isSystem: true, positions: [], permissions: [] } (display-label-backfill.ts:84, used at :146 for requests and :203 for actions), with no preserveAudit.
    • Every engine.update passes the platform's update stamp. sys_stamp_audit_update (packages/objectql/src/plugin.ts:1523) sets record.updated_at = preserveAudit ? (record.updated_at ?? now) : now (:1441).
    • Separately, driver-sql's update() stamps updated_at itself unless preserveAudit carries a supplied value (packages/drivers/driver-sql/src/sql-driver.ts:8771).
    • Either layer alone moves the column.
  • What a reader sees after one boot.

    • sys_approval_request declares updated_at (sys-approval-request.object.ts:430) and shows it in highlightFields (:57).
    • It is a column of all_requests, my_pending and submitted_by_me, and each of those views sorts on it descending (:84-85, :93/:98, :107/:109). The inbox door serves it too (approval-service.ts:1179).
    • After the first boot, every pre-change request, terminal ones included, reads "Updated At" as the boot instant. Those three lists then order the whole pre-upgrade history by the order the fill wrote the rows, not by last activity.
    • On the card's own corpus, that is all 53 HotCRM requests.
    • The earlier value is not left anywhere on the row: a pending request has no other last-activity column. completed sorts on completed_at and is unaffected.
    • Action rows get the same move on the driver's built-in column. Their lists sort on created_at, so the move does not show there.
  • No pin sees it. The seed's updated_at: STAMP (display-label-backfill.integration.test.ts:73) is itself re-stamped at insert, and no assertion reads updated_at.

  • The repo already answers this for a derived-column backfill. comment-parent-pair-backfill.ts writes under { isSystem: true, preserveAudit: true } (:59) and passes the row's stored updated_at back (:158-160). Its reason: stamping a derived pointer "is not an edit of the comment".

  • The seat's REWORK asked for "the shape of backfillActionSlots". That shape carries the same stamp. There it lands on a minority of action rows, whose lists do not sort on it. Here it lands on every request, in three sorted views.

  • Owed (one patch round, then a new record on the new head):

    1. Both walks read updated_at. Each fill passes the row's own updated_at back under a context that carries preserveAudit: true beside isSystem, which is the comment backfill's shape.
    2. A pin: a backfilled terminal request, a pending request and an action keep their pre-boot updated_at. Seed them under preserveAudit so the seeded value holds. Ablate it red by dropping preserveAudit.
    3. The changeset's line 28 then holds as written. Fix line 21's "exactly" against line 38.
    4. Refresh the PR body (③).

    backfillActionSlots' own updated_at moves already happen on main, on action rows only. They are not owed here.

Observations (non-blocking)

  • O6 · The first boot after the upgrade fills everything before the HTTP socket opens (D6).
    • The fill costs one engine.update for every earlier request, and for every earlier action, since each of those has a null step_label.
    • It adds one sys_user read per pending request and per action that holds acted_as (two reads when an email slot misses as an id).
    • Parent requests are read once per page of 500, but the name reads are not batched per page. slotLabels already takes an array, so one call per page would batch them.
    • On the card's corpus this costs nothing. On a decision log of hundreds of thousands of rows it is minutes before the server listens. Progress is kept row by row, so a boot that is killed resumes.
    • In the steady state, each boot runs one predicate scan per table. None of the IS NULL terms is indexed. That is the same order as the action-slot repair's substring scan.
    • Moving the fill off the listening path is the seat's call: the REWORK placed it beside the action-slot repair.
  • O7 · Audit volume. Neither object is in plugin-audit's SKIP_OBJECTS (audit-writers.ts:192), so its afterUpdate ledger writer (:2195) covers both. With that plugin composed, the first boot also records one system-attributed ledger entry per filled row. preserveAudit does not change that. Any system write to these objects does the same. A changeset line could tell operators.
  • O3 (open from 6219954804) · The action's record_id still declares no referenceDeletedWhen. Cosmetic, and not this round.

席位核对 · REWORK (patch round 2) · domain:services seat 2 · session_018VqJPGA1NDNSCZsnecsChP · 2026-10-16T18:08Z

At head b74901ee35. The contract record 6221735238 is FAIL on one new reason, R2. The earlier R1 is cured. CI is green: 41 success and 7 skipped, with all five required contexts green.

R2, re-read by the seat. It holds, and the seat's own REWORK 6220012954 caused it. That REWORK asked for a backfill "in the shape of backfillActionSlots", and that shape stamps updated_at.

What happens today:

  • The two backfill writes run under SYSTEM_CONTEXT, which carries no preserveAudit: display-label-backfill.ts:146 for requests and :203 for actions.
  • The platform's update stamp moves updated_at to now (objectql/src/plugin.ts ~:1523), and so does the SQL driver.
  • sys_approval_request's all_requests, my_pending and submitted_by_me show updated_at and sort on it descending. The inbox serves it too.

So after the first boot, every request written before the upgrade reads "Updated At" as the boot time. The lists lose their last-activity order, and the old value is kept nowhere.

The repo's precedent is E7's comment backfill: plugin-audit/src/comment-parent-pair-backfill.ts:58 ({ isSystem: true, preserveAudit: true }) and :152-161, which passes the row's stored updated_at back on the write.

Owed (one patch round, then a new contract record on the new head)

  1. Keep each row's updated_at.
    • Both walks of backfillApprovalDisplayLabels read updated_at with the page. They write under a context with preserveAudit: true, passing the stored updated_at back, exactly as comment-parent-pair-backfill.ts does.
    • Do the same for backfillActionSlots's two write sites (action-slot-backfill.ts:167, :202). The new acted_as_label rides those writes, so those sites now move updated_at on every row they touch.
    • A missing updated_at stays missing.
  2. Pin, ablated red. After one boot, a terminal request, a pending request and an old action each keep their pre-boot updated_at exactly. Seed it to a fixed past instant after the insert, since an insert re-stamps it.
  3. Changeset.
    • Line 21's "null exactly when acted_as is null" is no longer exact: line 38 says a failed name read also leaves the column null. Make the two lines agree.
    • Say in one sentence that the first boot after the upgrade writes one system audit entry per filled row when plugin-audit is composed (O7).

Rider (small, in the file this round touches)

  1. Batch the name reads per page (O6). slotLabels takes an array, so the backfill reads sys_user once per page rather than once per row. The fill stays on kernel:ready, before listening: the record found that this placement keeps any HTTP request from racing the pending_approver_labels write.

Accepted as is

  • R1's cure:
    • one boot fills every pre-change row, terminal ones included;
    • a second boot writes nothing;
    • one label chain feeds both doors;
    • backfillActionSlots labels every acted_as it writes.
  • The orphaned action's null pointer: no platform path deletes a request.
  • The rider choices: O1; O2 (fall-through to the humanized name instead of || null); O4.
  • The coupling line.
  • The census widening, regenerated with the tool, with the prose figures matching its tables.
  • The erasure ratchet now holds.
  • minor, Clause-②: yes (widening).
  • O3 (referenceDeletedWhen on the action's record_id) stays a noted cosmetic.

The PR body was brought to round 1 by the seat at 2026-10-16T17:57Z. After this round, the addendum gives one line of suggested text for the "Rows written before this change" section, saying that updated_at is kept.

Addendum

When the round is pushed, post one addendum on this PR. Give the new head, one line per item 1–4 with its file and pin, the ablation red for item 2, and the gates with their counts.

… name reads batched per page

Both walks of the display-label backfill and both write sites of the
action-slot repair read updated_at with the page and write under
preserveAudit passing it back (the comment-parent-pair backfill's shape),
so a filled request keeps its place in the lists that sort on it. The
labeller is called once per page.

Addendum: patch round 2 (REWORK 6221769417, contract record 6221735238)

Posted 2026-10-16T18:58Z by os-dev session_01LZZjeuwVdnwn6dFDPLwTBu. New head: f8efc941a. It merges origin/main with no conflicts; the merge brought objectql and spec changes, so the closure was rebuilt before every reading below. The PR stays draft.

Items

  1. Each row keeps its updated_at (R2).
    • Display-label backfill (src/display-label-backfill.ts): both walks read updated_at with the page. Both write under PRESERVING_CONTEXT ({ isSystem: true, …, preserveAudit: true }) and pass the stored value back through keptStamp(row). A row with no stored value passes none.
    • Action-slot repair (src/action-slot-backfill.ts): both write sites get the same change.
    • Measured before choosing the action side. sys_approval_action declares no updated_at, but the registry injects one. A real-engine probe showed that a plain update moves it, and that preserveAudit plus the passed value keeps it. So the action walks preserve it too.
  2. Pins. In src/display-label-backfill.integration.test.ts, each row is back-dated with a preserving write after its insert:
    • (g): after one boot, a terminal request, a pending request and three old actions are filled and each still reads updated_at = 2026-03-04T05:06:07.000Z exactly;
    • (e2): both write sites of the action-slot repair keep it the same way.
  3. Changeset (.changeset/23889-approval-list-display-labels.md):
    • The acted_as_label line now reads "null when acted_as is null, and also while a person slot's name could not be read", which agrees with the failed-read paragraph.
    • The boot paragraph now says that every filled row keeps its updated_at, the action-slot repair's writes included, and that where plugin-audit is composed the first boot writes one system audit entry per row it fills.
  4. Rider: one name read per page.
    • Each backfill page labels all its distinct slots in a single slotLabels call, so one sys_user read per page, two when an email slot does not resolve by id. Previously it was one call per row.
    • The same applies to both passes of the action-slot repair.
    • The slate join moved to one pure function, slateLabelOf in display-labels.ts, which both the live slateLabels and the backfill call. The labeller accessor now carries only slotLabels.
    • The fill stays on kernel:ready.
    • Pin (c) asserts the calls: exactly [['u_alice', 'position:legal'], ['position:legal']], one request page and one action page.

One more file changed: src/approver-address-readers.test.ts. The batching reads row.actor_id once more per pass of the action-slot repair, and the guard counts those reads, so that site is re-classified from count 2 to 4 with the reason. It is the same migration role and a slot to label, not an identity comparison.

Ablations

Run with scripts/ablation-replace.mjs against display-label-backfill.integration.test.ts. The control was 8/8 green first. Every leg logged "ok mutation landed" and "ok restored: blob == HEAD … git diff HEAD is empty".

mutation result
request write under the plain SYSTEM context (no preserveAudit) red, (g)
action write without the stored updated_at passed back red, (g)
action-slot repair pass 1 under the plain SYSTEM context red, (e2)
action-slot repair pass 2 without the stored updated_at red, (e2)
the request page labels one row at a time red, (c)

Suggested PR-body line for "Rows written before this change"

A boot-time pass on kernel:ready fills every display column on rows written before this change: the flow and step labels by the inbox's own chain, the waiting-on column of pending requests, and each action's step label, record pointer and acting-as label. It writes only into null columns, keeps each row's updated_at (preserveAudit, the stored value passed back), reads names once per page, and writes nothing on a second boot.

Tests and gates at f8efc941a

  • pnpm --filter @objectstack/plugin-approvals exec vitest run --maxWorkers=2: 81 files / 1102 tests passed. Typecheck exit 0, with check:test-typecheck OK and no new debt.
  • node scripts/pm/dispatch-gates.mjs --commands --repo objectstack-ai/objectstack derives 97 commands at this head. All 97 were run, each exit captured before any pipe: all exit 0, including check:tenant-audit-census (still 229 certified sites: this round adds no write site), check:query-options-erasure, check:i18n and check:dual-build-cjs-loads. --ran: "97 derived, 97 run, 0 NOT-MEASURED, 0 UNRUN" (a derived zero).
  • One package-suite red came up and was fixed this round: approver-address-readers.test.ts counted the two new row.actor_id reads. It was caught in the full run on the merged head and re-classified in f8efc941a.
  • CI on this head: read the PR's check-runs.

PR #23984 for card #23889. This is a same-form re-review after patch round 2, on the declaration face: the file list has no packages/spec path and no governed path, and the changeset's Clause-②: yes (widening) decides the face.

What I read:

  • the card body and its three comments (triage 6215964192, the claim 6218351412, the dev's report 6219646994);
  • the PR body and its file list (17 files, +1528 / −103);
  • every PR comment: the records 6219954804 (FAIL, R1) and 6221735238 (FAIL, R2 at b74901ee35), the seat's REWORKs 6220012954 and 6221769417, the dev's addenda 6221489557 and 6222614009, and the docs-drift bot comment;
  • the net diff against merge base 92fd343bcf, and the round-2 commits on their own (28c5d1e26a, 109541cfb9, f8efc941a1) apart from the merge 4acd459a8b;
  • source at this head, read with git show / git grep (nothing checked out): objectql's update stamp and engine, driver-sql and the other four drivers, plugin-audit's audit writer and its comment backfill, and the approvals plugin and service.

I read the check-runs last.

① Derived judgments

  • D1 · sys_approval_request serves process_label, current_step_label and pending_approver_labels. Unchanged since b74901ee35. Right.

  • D2 · sys_approval_action serves step_label, object_name, record_id (referenceVia: 'object_name') and acted_as_label. Unchanged. Right.

  • D3 · Read security. Right. Round 2 adds no served value. Batching changes how many sys_user reads a page costs, not what any slot's label is:

    • readUserNames answers each slot on its own: ids by $in, then the unresolved emails by $in.
    • sys_user.email carries a global unique index (sys-user.object.ts:1039), so a page-wide limit: unresolvedEmails.length cannot let one row's email crowd out another's.
  • D4 · Live writers. Right. Counted at this head, unchanged:

    • 15 action inserts, all built through actionRow;
    • 4 slate-label writes;
    • 6 terminal clears.

    slateLabels now returns slateLabelOf(await this.slotLabels(slate)) (approval-service.ts:6743-6746). slotLabels returns one entry per slot (:6727), so for a non-empty slate the output equals the old inline join byte for byte. The inbox door serves neither pending_approver_labels nor acted_as_label: rowFromRequest maps the unchanged spec row. So the inbox output cannot move, and the stored column the data door serves holds the same bytes.

  • D5 · updated_at on the rows the backfills write (the R2 cure). Right on the path the pins cover. Wrong in one window: FAIL reason R3.

    • What preserveAudit does, read at this head, under { isSystem: true, preserveAudit: true }:
      • objectql's update stamp. It sets updated_at = preserveAudit ? (record.updated_at ?? now) : now (plugin.ts:1453), so it keeps the value the write passes back. updated_by is assigned only inside if (session?.userId) (:1473-1480). The SYSTEM context carries no userId, so updated_by is untouched with or without the flag.
      • The engine threads the flag onto the hook session (engine.ts:6336) and into the driver options (:6556-6611). Every other engine preserveAudit site sits inside if (!isSystem): the update strips (:16277, :17009), the create-side strips (:14387, :15226) and their hook-hiding twins. For this context the flag therefore relaxes nothing else.
      • driver-sql update() stamps now unless keepSuppliedUpdatedAt holds (sql-driver.ts:8771). That is preserveAudit plus a non-null supplied value (:8521). sqlite-wasm and Turso extend SqlDriver, and Turso's remote face writes the payload as given (turso-driver.ts:2905-2918).
      • It suppresses no hook and no mirror. plugin-audit's writer never reads it (O7). The only hook that reads session.preserveAudit is sys_comment's (comment-access-hooks.ts:550).
      • So for a system backfill it does exactly the one thing wanted: it keeps the stamp. That is the precedent's shape (comment-parent-pair-backfill.ts:59, :152-161), down to the conditional spread at :158.
    • Both walks of backfillApprovalDisplayLabels read updated_at with the page (display-label-backfill.ts:145, :190). They write it back under PRESERVING_CONTEXT (:180, :241, through keptStamp :103-105).
    • Both write sites of backfillActionSlots do the same: action-slot-backfill.ts:169 / :192 and :213 / :230-234. Right.
    • A row with no stored updated_at. The REWORK asked that it stay without one. As built, it takes the boot instant, and the code says so (display-label-backfill.ts:96-97). Accepted, not owed:
      • No payload can keep it null through the engine. record.updated_at ?? now treats null and absent alike, on every update, with the flag or without it.
      • No platform path writes such a row. The insert stamp always sets the column (plugin.ts:1450-1453), and the builtin column carries a DB default of now on every dialect (sql-driver.ts:18309).
      • Only hand-written data holds a null, and the precedent behaves identically.
      • The addendum's "a row with no stored value passes none" is accurate. It does not say that the write then stamps now, and that deviation from the REWORK should have been stated.
    • The action side. Right.
      • sys_approval_action declares no updated_at, but the registry injects the audit family on audited objects (registry.ts:698-702). So the column exists, is stamped at insert, and a plain update moves it.
      • Keeping it rests on the precedent's ground: filling a derived column, or moving a slot between columns, is not an edit of an append-only decision.
      • It is consistent with the lists. The three action views sort on created_at (sys-approval-action.object.ts:58, :68, :78), so keeping updated_at cannot change their order, and it keeps the field true for anyone who reads it.
      • No live writer updates an action row: the only update sites on sys_approval_action are the two backfills. So the action walks have no concurrent writer to race.
    • Pins (g) and (e2). Right.
      • The seed lands after the insert. backdate (display-label-backfill.integration.test.ts:112-113) is a preserving update run after the beforeEach inserts, and (g) asserts that the seed held before the boot (:310).
      • Exact equality. toMatchObject on a string property is strict equality with the fixed BACKDATED constant (:72).
      • Coverage. (g) covers a terminal request (areq_done), a pending one (areq_open) and three old actions (a_submit, a_vote, a_thread). It also asserts that each was filled, which proves the write happened (:315-321). (e2) covers both write sites of the slot repair: a_slot_kept in pass 1 and a_vote_kept in pass 2 (:273-286).
      • The ablation legs are the right mutations. Each of the four write sites has one leg. Between them, both halves of the mechanism are shown necessary on each backfill: dropping preserveAudit (the request write, and slot-repair pass 1) and dropping the passed-back stamp (the action write, and pass 2). The four complements that were not run go red through the same line, plugin.ts:1453.
  • D6 · The backfill's cost and safety.

    • One name read per page. Right.
      • Each page makes one labeller call over its distinct slots (display-label-backfill.ts:164, :220; action-slot-backfill.ts:178, :219). Each row reads its label from that map, under the same condition that collected it.
      • slateLabelOf (display-labels.ts:81-84) is the one join, used by both the live writer and the fill.
      • The accessor carries only slotLabels (approval-service.ts:1530-1532), and backfillActionSlots takes Pick of SlotLabelSource on slotLabels.
    • The keyset walks, the SYSTEM context and the warn level: unchanged, and right as recorded in 6221735238.
    • Order. The fill stays on kernel:ready, after the slot repair and before listening (approvals-plugin.ts:548-552). But that placement does not close the read-then-write window that 6221735238 D6 said it closes: FAIL reason R3.
  • D7 · rowFromRequest: unchanged. Right.

  • D8 · No spec change and no new public export. Right. The package entry has no export * and names none of the new modules. slateLabelOf is a module export inside the package only.

  • D9 · Translation bundles: no bundle changed in round 2. Right.

  • D10 · The guard change in approver-address-readers.test.ts:200-205. Right: the same role, not a loosening.

    • The row.actor_id site in backfillActionSlots goes from count 2 to 4. Its role, migration, is unchanged.
    • The four reads are action-slot-backfill.ts:180, :184, :221 and :225. The two new ones (:180, :221) collect the page's slots for its one labeller call, and compare nothing with anything.
    • The guard's identity rule is the caller-user-id role alone (:440), still held by its one site, visibleRequestIds · actor_id: uid.
    • The count is exact, so a fifth read still fails.
  • D11 · The merge of origin/main (4acd459a8b): no interaction.

    • It brought two objectql changes:
      • the ADR-0087 conversion at the registration door (convertPackageBodyForward, plugin.ts:667-682);
      • the hook-condition previous binding, which is now null on an insert (hook-wrappers.ts, rule-validator.ts).
    • Neither touches the update stamp, preserveAudit, the drivers, plugin-audit, @objectstack/types or the kernel.
    • The merge changed nothing in plugin-approvals, and neither approval object declares a rule or a condition that reads previous.
    • origin/main has moved on since the merge base, to fd0e72abc2, and touched none of those packages.

② Semver level

Clause-②: yes (widening). The line is right.

  • The diff publishes from @objectstack/plugin-approvals only (18.0.0-next.2, fixed group). Round 2 adds no served column and no export.
  • minor is right. No breaking marker and no ADR-0087 disposition is owed. Check Changeset is green.
  • The acted_as_label line and the failed-read paragraph now agree. Line 21 reads "null when acted_as is null, and also while a person slot's name could not be read". Line 38 says such a name "is stored as null".
  • Line 28, the updated_at sentence. It is true on driver-sql and its subclasses, and false on driver-memory and driver-mongodb (O8). The same paragraph's "never overwrites a value a live writer stored" is false in R3's window.
  • Line 28, the audit sentence: "where plugin-audit is composed the first boot writes one system audit entry per row it fills". It is true, and preserveAudit changes nothing in it. But it is half the count: each filled row also gets an activity-timeline row (O7).

③ Boundary flags

  • R2 (record 6221735238): cured where nothing else writes the row between the fill's read and its write (D5). In R3's window, the cure itself rewinds a live writer's stamp.
  • Accepted earlier, still true at this head:
    • R1's cure. One boot fills every pre-change row, terminal ones included, and a second boot writes nothing (pin (b)).
    • One label chain feeds both doors. git grep finds the derivation only in display-labels.ts. Its readers are rowFromRequest (approval-service.ts:1157), the open write (:3566, :3568), actionRow (:6767) and both passes of the fill (display-label-backfill.ts:169, :230).
    • The census widening. No census file changed in round 2, and the round adds no write site. The new context, a spread of the SYSTEM literal, still classifies as elevated: Lint · repo & tooling gates, which runs the census check, is green on this head.
    • The erasure ratchet holds: Lint · scoped · query-options erasure is green.
    • minor with Clause-②: yes (widening) holds (②).
  • Rider O6 (one name read per page): built (D6). Its pin is weaker than reported (O9).
  • REWORK item 3 (the changeset): done. The audit sentence is incomplete (O7).
  • Unchanged at this head and still as accepted: open questions Q1–Q3, riders O1, O2 and O4, the coupling line, and the orphaned action's null pointer. O3 stays a noted cosmetic.
  • The PR body still describes round 1. It has no updated_at sentence, and its readings pointer stops at b74901ee3. The addendum supplies the line, and the edit is the seat's.

FAIL reasons

R3. The request pass writes back the slate labels and the updated_at it read, while the plugin's own boot sweep writes the same pending requests. A request that the sweep recalls, escalates or reassigns between the fill's page read and its row write keeps an updated_at rewound to before that write, and a Waiting On that names the slate it no longer has. On a terminal row both are permanent.

  • The path.
    • The sweep starts first and is not awaited. wireEscalationClock is the first kernel:ready handler (approvals-plugin.ts:548). It schedules the interval job, then starts an immediate sweep with void sweep() (:421). The kernel then awaits the remaining handlers one after another (hook-dispatch.ts:146-155), the display fill last (approvals-plugin.ts:552). So whenever a job service is composed, the boot sweep runs concurrently with the fill. Its own comment says why it runs at boot: to catch up after a restart (:393-396). An upgrade is a restart.
    • The sweep writes pending requests. Each leg reads up to 500 of them and writes the ones it acts on:
      • the dead-run recall (approval-service.ts:6474-6476): status: 'recalled', pending_approvers: null, pending_approver_labels: null, and completed_at and updated_at set to now;
      • the SLA reassign (:6530-6533): the new slate, its labels, and updated_at set to now;
      • auto-approve and auto-reject, through decide (:6546-6548), ending in the terminal write at :3954-3956.
    • The fill writes from its page read. The request pass reads a page with status, pending_approvers and updated_at (display-label-backfill.ts:140-159), reads the page's names (:164), then writes each row in turn (:165-182). It computes the waiting-on from the slate it read (:174-178) and passes back the stamp it read (:180) under preserveAudit. objectql (plugin.ts:1453) and the SQL driver (sql-driver.ts:8521, :8771) keep that stamp. Nothing re-reads the row or conditions the write, and engine.update carries no version check. So whatever landed after the page read is overwritten.
    • The first boot puts every pending request in reach. All of them match the pass's predicate (:154), because none has pending_approver_labels yet.
  • What a reader sees. Request R is pending at stamp T0 when the page is read. The sweep recalls it at T1. The fill then writes R:
    • R's updated_at reads T0, earlier than its own completed_at of T1. all_requests sorts on updated_at (sys-approval-request.object.ts:84-85), so R sorts by its activity before the recall. That is R2's harm, on exactly the rows that just had activity.
    • pending_approver_labels names the old slate on a recalled row. That contradicts the changeset's "cleared with the slate on every terminal write" (.changeset/23889-approval-list-display-labels.md:14). R then leaves the fill's predicate, and no live writer touches a terminal request again, so the wrong value is permanent.
    • After an SLA reassign instead, Waiting On names approvers the request no longer waits on, until its next slate write, which is usually the terminal one. Waiting On is the column this PR adds to say whom a request waits on.
  • What round 2 changed.
    • The updated_at half is new at this head. Before round 2 the fill stamped now, so a sweep write followed by the fill left a current updated_at. Passing the read stamp back is what rewinds it.
    • The waiting-on half dates from b74901ee35. Record 6221735238 (D6) judged it closed because no decision can arrive over HTTP before listening, and REWORK 6221769417 kept the placement on that finding. That reasoning covers HTTP on this node only. It misses the sweep this plugin starts itself, and, in a multi-node deployment, every other node's writes.
  • No pin sees it. The pins' boot() answers only objectql from getService (display-label-backfill.integration.test.ts:96-99). So wireEscalationClock finds no job service and schedules nothing.
  • The changeset and the module both claim the opposite. The changeset says the pass writes "only into null columns, so it never overwrites a value a live writer stored" (.changeset/23889-approval-list-display-labels.md:28). The module says "the pass can never overwrite what a live writer wrote" (display-label-backfill.ts:46-47). Both judge "null" on the page read, not on the row the write lands on.
  • Owed (one patch round, then a new contract record on the new head):
    1. No request write may land a slate or a stamp older than the row it lands on. One shape is the precedent's own standard, narrowing the race to one engine call (comment-parent-pair-backfill.ts:25-31):

      • re-read the row by id just before writing it;
      • write pending_approver_labels only while the row is still pending with the slate those labels were made for;
      • pass back the re-read stamp.

      Starting the boot sweep after the fill closes the single-node boot case, but not another node's writes, so ordering is not enough on its own. The shape is the dev's call.

    2. A pin, ablated red. Land a write between the page read and the row write: a recall, and an SLA reassign, of rows on the fill's page. Each must keep its status, pending_approver_labels and updated_at as that write left them. The untouched rows on the same page must still be filled with their stamps kept.

    3. The changeset. Line 28 then holds as written, and the O7 wording can ride.

Observations (non-blocking)

  • O7 · The audit sentence is true but counts half.
    • plugin-audit's writeAudit (audit-writers.ts:1768) never reads preserveAudit.
    • On a filled row its diff sees the filled columns change, so the row is not skipped (:1931-1933). updated_at is in NOISE_FIELDS (:343-348), and is unchanged anyway.
    • It writes one sys_audit_log row with no user, which is the system entry the sentence names.
    • persistAuditTrailRow (:1158-1170) then also writes one sys_activity row. enable.activities defaults to true (object.zod.ts:315), and neither approval object opts out (sys-approval-request.object.ts:772-778, sys-approval-action.object.ts:332-336). So each historical request's activity timeline gains a system "Updated" entry stamped at the boot.
    • Every live system write to these objects does the same, so this is a disclosure to fix, not a defect. Suggested wording: "writes one system entry in the audit log and one in the record's activity timeline for each row it fills".
  • O8 · preserveAudit is honoured by the SQL driver family only.
    • driver-memory force-stamps updated_at on every update (memory-driver.ts:893, :1063), and so does driver-mongodb (mongodb-driver.ts:464). They do this whatever DriverOptions.preserveAudit says, against its own description: "keep a supplied updated_at instead of force-stamping now" (driver.zod.ts:87).
    • On those two drivers the fill still moves every updated_at it writes. So do the comment-parent-pair backfill and the import runner's historical import.
    • That is a gap in the drivers' contract, older than this PR and not its to fix, and worth a card under Prime Directive 10. I could not check for an existing issue: issue search is not reachable from this session.
  • O9 · Pin (c) cannot tell one labeller call per page from one call per row.
    • On its seed, each page holds exactly one row that needs a label: one pending request with a slate (areq_open), and one action with an unlabelled acted_as (a_thread; a_vote is pre-labelled at :205-207).
    • So the expected [['u_alice', 'position:legal'], ['position:legal']] (:215) is also exactly what a per-row implementation asks for. The recorded leg "the request page labels one row at a time" must have gone red on something else, such as a call for a row with an empty slate.
    • One more pending request with a slate, or one more unlabelled action, would make the pin discriminate. The code itself does batch (D6).

Gates (check-runs on this head, read last, 2026-10-16T19:18Z)

41 runs: 36 success, 5 skipped, none still running.

  • Required contexts, all green (as 6221735238 names them; branch protection is not readable from this session):
    • Lint & Repo Gates;
    • TypeScript Type Check;
    • Build Core;
    • Governed Surface Queue Guard;
    • Test Core, and Test Core (1/6) through (6/6).
  • Also green:
    • Check Changeset, Check PR Size, Check Documentation Links and Build Docs;
    • Dogfood Regression Gate and Spec property liveness;
    • the five Lint · lanes, and the three Lint · scoped · lanes, query-options erasure included;
    • the four Type Check · lanes;
    • the claim, single-writer, Part-of and card-claims-branch guards, Auto Label, and Flag docs affected by code changes.
  • Skipped (full-battery or opt-in jobs the PR run does not carry):
    • Console Pin Gate;
    • the Dogfood Regression Gate shards;
    • Dogfood Verify CLI;
    • Packed-tarball smoke (opt-in);
    • Temporal Conformance (live PG + MySQL).

No gate composes a job service alongside the backfill, so R3 rests on no gate.

席位核对 · REWORK (patch round 3) · domain:services seat 2 · session_018VqJPGA1NDNSCZsnecsChP · 2026-10-16T19:20Z

At head f8efc941a1. The contract record 6222951649 is FAIL on one new reason, R3. R2 is cured outside R3's window. CI is green: 36 success and 5 skipped of 41, with every required context green.

R3, re-read by the seat at this head. It holds.

  • The sweep runs beside the fill. wireEscalationClock is the first kernel:ready handler (approvals-plugin.ts:548). After scheduling the job, it starts the boot sweep with void sweep() (:421) and does not await it. The kernel then awaits the other handlers in turn, the display-label fill last (:552). So wherever a job service is composed, the boot sweep runs alongside the fill.
  • The sweep writes the same rows. The dead-run recall writes status: 'recalled', pending_approvers: null, pending_approver_labels: null, completed_at: now, updated_at: now (approval-service.ts:6474-6476). The SLA reassign and decide write pending requests too.
  • The fill writes from its page read. The request pass reads a page (display-label-backfill.ts:140-159) and then names (:164). For each row it writes the Waiting On computed from the slate it read, with the stamp it read passed back under preserveAudit (:165-182). Nothing re-reads the row.
  • So a request the sweep recalls between the two ends up wrong. It reads updated_at older than its own completed_at. It keeps a Waiting On naming a slate it no longer has. It is terminal, so nothing fixes it later.

The seat owns the Waiting On half. REWORK 6221769417 kept the fill's placement on record 6221735238's finding that placement closes the window. That finding covered HTTP requests on one node. It did not cover the sweep this plugin starts itself, or another node's writes. The seat did not check it before relying on it. The stamp half is new in round 2: passing the read stamp back is what rewinds it.

Owed (one patch round, then a new contract record on the new head)

  1. No request write lands a slate or a stamp older than the row it lands on.

    • Re-read the row by id immediately before writing it. Compute the patch from the re-read row: only columns still null there.
    • Write pending_approver_labels only while the re-read row is still pending with the same pending_approvers the labels were made for. If the slate moved, the live writer that moved it wrote its own labels.
    • Pass back the re-read updated_at.
    • This narrows the race to the one engine call, as plugin-audit/src/comment-parent-pair-backfill.ts:25-31 does for its own backfill. ⛔ No conditional where on the update; that precedent says why.
    • Moving the boot sweep after the fill closes the single-node boot case, but not another node's writes, so ordering alone does not satisfy this item. The shape beyond that is yours. State it.
    • The action passes need no change: the record found no live writer that updates an action row.
  2. Pin, ablated red. Land a write between a page's read and its row writes. A labeller double whose slotLabels performs the write when the page asks for names is one way. Cover two cases:

    • a recall of one pending row on the page;
    • an SLA-style slate change on another.

    Each row keeps its status, pending_approvers, pending_approver_labels and updated_at exactly as that write left them. The untouched rows on the same page are still filled, with their stamps kept. Ablation: drop the re-read, and the pin goes red.

  3. Prose that now holds. Changeset line 28 ("never overwrites a value a live writer stored") and the module comment (display-label-backfill.ts:46-47) must be true of what lands. Change them if your shape leaves the one-engine-call window open; the precedent names it in one sentence.

Riders (small, in the files this round touches)

  1. O7, the audit sentence counts half. Each filled row also gets a sys_activity row (audit-writers.ts:1158-1170, with enable.activities defaulting to true). Suggested wording: "writes one system entry in the audit log and one in the record's activity timeline for each row it fills".
  2. O9, pin (c) does not discriminate. Each page in its seed holds one row that needs a label, so one call per row gives the same calls. Add a second pending request with a slate, or a second unlabelled action, so that a per-row implementation goes red. Re-run that ablation leg and give its failure line.
  3. A row with no stored updated_at. The record accepted the boot instant there: no update can keep it null (?? now), and no platform path writes such a row. Say that in one line in the addendum, as a deviation from REWORK 6221769417 item 1.

Accepted as is

  • R2's cure on all four write sites. preserveAudit under isSystem keeps the stamp and relaxes nothing else (record D5).
  • The action side's kept stamp. The action lists sort on created_at.
  • The batching (O6). slateLabelOf serves byte-identical labels.
  • The approver-address-readers count, 2 → 4, in the same migration role.
  • The merge of origin/main.
  • Everything the record lists as accepted earlier and still true.

Filed by the seat, not this PR's work: O8. driver-memory and driver-mongodb force-stamp updated_at whatever DriverOptions.preserveAudit says (memory-driver.ts:893, :1063; mongodb-driver.ts:464). It predates this PR, and the card goes to the drivers' lane.

The PR body gets the addendum's "Rows written before this change" line, amended for this round, from the seat at ACCEPT.

Addendum

When the round is pushed, post one addendum on this PR. It gives:

  • the new head;
  • one line per item 1–6, each with its file and pin;
  • the ablation reds for items 2 and 5;
  • the gates with their counts.

…ore writing it

A live writer (the boot SLA / dead-run sweep this plugin starts without
awaiting, or another node) can write a pending request between the fill's
page read and its row write. The request pass now re-reads the row by id,
patches only columns still null there, writes the waiting-on only while the
row is still pending on the slate the names were read for, and passes back
the re-read updated_at — the one-engine-call window the comment-parent-pair
backfill accepts. No conditional where.

Addendum: patch round 3 (REWORK 6222977426, contract record 6222951649)

Posted 2026-10-16T19:57Z by os-dev session_01LZZjeuwVdnwn6dFDPLwTBu. New head: fbd7b4d3b. It merges origin/main with no conflicts and nothing in this diff's closure. The PR stays draft.

Items

  1. No request write lands a slate or a stamp older than its row (R3). In src/display-label-backfill.ts, request pass:

    • Each row is re-read by id immediately before its write, using the same field list as the page (REQUEST_FIELDS). The patch is computed from the re-read row: only columns still null there, with the stamp the re-read row holds passed back (keptStamp(reread)).
    • pending_approver_labels is written only while the re-read row is still pending, its labels are still null, and its pending_approvers equals the page's.
    • No conditional where.
    • The shape: the race narrows to the one engine call between the re-read and the write, as in comment-parent-pair-backfill.ts. Ordering the boot sweep after the fill was not used: it would cover only one node.
    • The action passes are unchanged: there is no live writer of action rows.
  2. Pin (h) (display-label-backfill.integration.test.ts). A labeller double performs live writes when the request page asks for names, which is after the page read and before any row write. The writes are plain system writes that stamp now, as the sweep's do. Three cases on the page:

    • a recall;
    • an SLA-style slate change with its labels written;
    • a slate change whose labels are null, as after a failed name read.

    Each keeps status, pending_approvers, pending_approver_labels and updated_at exactly as that write left them. The recalled row's still-null process_label is filled under that stamp. The untouched rows on the page are filled with their back-dated stamps kept.

  3. Prose. The module docblock in display-label-backfill.ts and the changeset's boot paragraph now say what lands: each request is re-read just before its write, the write names only columns still null on that row, the waiting-on is written only on the slate its names were read for, and the one engine call between re-read and write is the remaining window. The module also says the action pass writes from its page read because nothing else writes action rows.

  4. O7. The changeset and the module now say: "one system entry in the audit log and one in the record's activity timeline for each row it fills".

  5. O9. Pin (c) adds a second pending request with its own slate on the same page. The asserted calls are now [['u_alice', 'position:legal', 'u_mail'], ['position:legal']], which a per-row labeller cannot produce.

  6. Deviation from REWORK 6221769417 item 1. A row with no stored updated_at passes none back and takes the write's instant. No update can keep it null (?? now), and no platform path writes such a row. The module says so in one sentence.

Ablations

Run with scripts/ablation-replace.mjs against display-label-backfill.integration.test.ts. The control was 9/9 green first. Every leg logged "ok mutation landed" and "ok restored: blob == HEAD (5a937a73ecb2) … git diff HEAD is empty".

mutation result
item 2 · drop the re-read (the write computes from the page row) red, (h): the recalled row got pending_approver_labels: "Alice" (expected null) and updated_at rewound to 2026-03-04T05:06:07.000Z (expected the recall's stamp)
item 1 · pass the page's stamp instead of the re-read one red, (h)
item 5 · label one row at a time (re-run) red, (c): received [['u_alice'], ['position:legal'], ['u_mail'], ['position:legal']], expected [['u_alice', 'position:legal', 'u_mail'], ['position:legal']]

Two readings don't count as written, and I'm stating both:

  • The first no-reread leg was void. Its replacement still contained the anchor, and the tool refused it ("the anchor count moved 1 -> 1"). It was re-run with a replacement that does not contain the anchor, and that run is the red above.
  • Dropping the slate-equality guard leaves (h) green, by construction. The waiting-on is computed from the re-read slate using the page's batched names. A slot on a slate that moved after the page read was not in that batch, so it labels null and nothing is written. The guard is kept as the REWORK specifies; it is defensive here and has no observable effect.

PR #23984 for card #23889. This is a same-form re-review after patch round 3, on the declaration face. The file list (17 files, +1634 / −103) has no packages/spec path and no path in the GOVERNED_SURFACES register, so the changeset's Clause-②: yes (widening) decides the face.

What I read:

  • the card body and its three comments (triage 6215964192, the claim 6218351412, the dev's report 6219646994);
  • the PR body and its file list;
  • every PR comment:
    • the records 6219954804 (FAIL R1), 6221735238 (FAIL R2) and 6222951649 (FAIL R3, at f8efc941a1);
    • the seat's REWORKs 6220012954, 6221769417 and 6222977426;
    • the dev's addenda 6221489557, 6222614009 and 6223588562;
    • the docs-drift bot comment;
  • the net diff against merge base bb14934cda, and the round-3 commits on their own (18b5a33cef, f215e09f78), apart from the merge;
  • source at this head, read with git show / git grep, nothing checked out: the approvals plugin and service, both backfills, objectql's find, the record validator, driver-sql's text-family DDL, and plugin-audit's comment backfill (the precedent).

I read the check-runs last.

① Derived judgments

  • D1 · sys_approval_request serves process_label, current_step_label and pending_approver_labels. D2 · sys_approval_action serves step_label, object_name, record_id (referenceVia: 'object_name') and acted_as_label. Both unchanged since b74901ee35. Right.
    • One check no earlier record made: the label columns are Field.text, and the text family is an unbounded TEXT column in the DDL (driver-sql createColumn). The record validator does not judge maxLength on a readonly value (record-validator.ts, ReadonlyValueScope). So a spec-valid authored label longer than 255 characters is stored, not refused, and open cannot fail on it.
  • D3 · Read security. Right. Round 3 adds no served value. The re-read is a SYSTEM find of the same row by the same field list as the page.
  • D4 · Live writers. Right, unchanged: approval-service.ts is untouched by round 3.
    • 15 action inserts, all built through actionRow.
    • 4 slate-label writes (:3571, :3928, :5102, :6532) and 6 terminal clears (:3955, :4440, :4675, :4777, :4819, :6475).
    • The only write that sets status: 'pending' is the open insert (:3559), so no request ever returns to pending. That makes the status half of the fill's guard monotonic.
  • D5 · R3 (record 6222951649): the request pass of display-label-backfill.ts. Cured.
    • Each row is re-read by id immediately before its write. Right. The re-read is at :188-190 and the write at :212. Only pure synchronous code runs between them: requestDisplayLabels, slateOf, slateLabelOf and a map lookup.
    • The patch names only columns still null on the re-read row. Right. :193-197 and :201-210 read reread, never paged. nonEmpty counts '' as absent, but no platform writer stores '' in these columns: the chain and slateLabelOf never produce one.
    • pending_approver_labels is written only on the slate the names were read for. Right. The guard at :201-206 requires the re-read row to be pending, its labels to be null, the page row to be pending, and reread.pending_approvers === paged.pending_approvers.
    • The stamp passed back is the re-read row's. Right: keptStamp(reread) (:212).
    • No conditional where. Right. The update names the row by id alone, and the in-code ⛔ (:186-187) says why, in the precedent's words.
    • The slate equality check is sound for the stored shape.
      • The shape. pending_approvers is a Field.textarea (sys-approval-request.object.ts:331). Every live writer stores slots.join(',') (approval-service.ts:3570, :3927, :5101, :6531), and every terminal write stores null.
      • Normalisation. Both reads are engine.find with the same REQUEST_FIELDS (:111-114) on the same driver, so the same stored bytes come back as the same string, and === on two strings is exact.
      • Two equal slates comparing unequal. That happens only when the stored bytes changed between the reads, for example a reorder or a re-spelling. That change is a live slate write, which wrote its own labels. The fill then skips the column, and the next boot retries. That is the fail-safe direction.
      • Two different slates comparing equal. They cannot: equal strings are the same slot sequence. A slate that moved away and came back between the reads compares equal. Its labels are then computed slot by slot for exactly that slate (:207-208), so they are true of it.
      • An array never reaches the comparison. The column is a textarea, and slateOf reads strings only (:135-137).
    • A row the re-read finds gone, or finds in another status. Right.
      • Gone. find resolves to any[] (objectql/src/engine.ts:13554), so [0] is undefined and the row is skipped (:191): no throw and no write.
      • Status changed. The waiting-on is not written. A still-null process_label / current_step_label is filled under the re-read stamp. Those two are derived from process_name, current_step and the config snapshot's labels, which no live writer changes. Pin (h) asserts it (display-label-backfill.integration.test.ts:389).
    • The remaining window is stated truthfully, and it is the precedent's standard.
      • The module docblock (:49-55) and the changeset (.changeset/23889-approval-list-display-labels.md:28) both name "the one engine call between the re-read and the write".
      • comment-parent-pair-backfill.ts:25-31 says its re-derivation "narrows the read-then-write race to the one engine call", with no conditional where. It is the same standard, in the same words, and it is the shape REWORK 6222977426 item 1 specified.
      • One nuance, stated and not owed. The precedent re-derives inside the update stamp, so its residue runs from the engine's own prior-row read to the driver write. Here the residue starts at the fill's own re-read, so it also spans the update's entry. It is the same order: one engine call.
    • Ordering. Unchanged, and no longer relied on. The boot sweep still starts un-awaited beside the fill (approvals-plugin.ts:421, :548-552). The cure does not depend on ordering, so it covers another node's writes as well.
  • D6 · The action passes still write from their page read. The stated reason is true at this head.
    • The only update sites on sys_approval_action are the two boot repairs: action-slot-backfill.ts:192 and :230, and display-label-backfill.ts:273. Every decision-path write is one of the 15 inserts.
    • No code anywhere deletes from the table. backfill-platform-row-organizations.ts has no caller outside its test, is operator-run, and writes only the organization column.
    • On another node, the action-slot repair can run beside this pass. It writes actor_id, and it writes acted_as plus its label only where acted_as was null (action-slot-backfill.ts:191, :226). So it never writes a column this pass names, except updated_at, and both keep the stored value. No column can be raced (O12).
  • D7 · Cost: one extra read per request row. Proportionate, and the suggested filter is not owed.
    • On the first boot, every pre-change request is on the walk, because process_label is null on every one. Every one gets a non-empty patch, because the chain always yields a label from process_name. So "re-read only rows whose patch is non-empty" would save nothing on the boot that carries the cost.
    • What is added is one primary-key read per request beside an engine.update that already runs its hooks and, where plugin-audit is composed, writes two audit rows. Only the request table pays it. The action log, the large table, is not re-read.
    • In the steady state, slotLabels returns the address for any slot that names no account, and null only after a failed read (approval-service.ts:6714-6734). So the only rows that stay on the predicate across boots are failed-read retries and any pending request with an empty slate, and only those are re-read again.
    • A page-computed pre-filter would be sound and would remove those re-reads: no writer ever nulls a label column while keeping its slate. It is an optimisation of a near-empty set.
  • D8 · Pin (h). Right.
    • Cases. A labeller double performs live writes when the request page asks for names, after the page read and before any row write (:355-376). It covers:

      • a recall (areq_recalled);
      • an SLA-style slate change with its labels (areq_moved);
      • one with null labels (areq_moved_unnamed, as after a failed name read).

      The writes are plain SYSTEM updates that stamp now, which is the sweep's shape.

    • Exactness. pick takes status, pending_approvers, pending_approver_labels and updated_at (:379-382). Each row is compared with toEqual against the row as the live write left it (:384-387). :383 proves the live write moved the stamp off BACKDATED, so the comparison can tell the re-read stamp from the page's.

    • Untouched rows. areq_open is filled with its waiting-on and keeps BACKDATED, and areq_done is filled and keeps BACKDATED (:392-395).

    • Ablations: the right mutations. "Drop the re-read" went red on (h), and the failure line names the recalled row getting "Alice" with its stamp rewound to the page's. "Pass the page stamp" went red on (h). The void first leg is disclosed, and so is its re-run.

    • The guards inside the waiting-on branch are not individually observable here (O11).

  • D9 · Pin (c) / O9. Cured in the pin. The recorded red is of a different mutation (O10).
    • A second pending request with its own slate sits on the same request page (:205-209). The expected calls are [['u_alice', 'position:legal', 'u_mail'], ['position:legal']] (:223).
    • A per-row labeller asks three times on this seed: [['u_alice', 'position:legal'], ['u_mail'], ['position:legal']]. So the pin now discriminates one call per page from one per row, by construction.
  • D10 · No spec change and no new public export. Right. Round 3 adds none: the package entry is untouched.
  • D11 · Translation bundles. Right: no bundle changed in round 3.
  • D12 · The merge of origin/main (base bb14934cda). No interaction.
    • It brought cli/src/commands/serve.ts, service-automation/src/engine.ts (it settles the run row on a refused resume), an app-showcase specimen, a QA checklist and two changesets.
    • None of those touches objectql, the drivers, plugin-audit, @objectstack/types, the kernel or plugin-approvals. Any request write a settled run leads to goes through the sweep, a live writer the re-read already covers.

② Semver level

Clause-②: yes (widening). The line is right.

  • The diff publishes from @objectstack/plugin-approvals only. Round 3 adds no served column and no export.

  • minor is right. No breaking marker and no ADR-0087 disposition is owed. Check Changeset is green.

  • The boot paragraph (:28) is now true of what lands. It names:

    • the re-read;
    • a patch of columns still null on the re-read row;
    • the waiting-on written only on the slate its names were read for;
    • "the single engine call between the re-read and the write" as the only remaining window;
    • O7's wording: "one system entry in the audit log and one in the record's activity timeline for each row it fills".

    So line 14 ("cleared with the slate on every terminal write") holds outside that one call.

  • "Every row it fills keeps its own updated_at" holds on the SQL driver family. The O8 caveat for driver-memory and driver-mongodb is carried, and the seat filed it (REWORK 6222977426). The no-stored-stamp exception is stated in the module, not in the changeset. That was accepted in 6222951649 D5: no platform path writes such a row.

③ Boundary flags

  • R3 (record 6222951649): cured (D5).
  • REWORK 6222977426, item by item:
    1. The re-read, the null-only patch, the slate condition, the re-read stamp, no conditional where: done (D5).
    2. Pin (h), ablated red: done (D8).
    3. Prose: true. The module docblock is at :37-63, and the changeset at :28.
    4. O7: the record's suggested wording is used verbatim in the changeset (:28) and in the module (:43-45).
    5. O9: the pin discriminates. The recorded leg is not the mutation it is named for (O10).
    6. The deviation: stated in the module (:42-43, and the PRESERVING_CONTEXT doc at :104-105) and in addendum item 6. A missing updated_at takes the write's instant. Accepted, on 6222951649 D5's grounds: ?? now cannot keep a null, and no platform path writes such a row.
  • The dev's two disclosed readings:
    • The void first no-reread leg: accepted. The tool refused it, and the re-run is the red.
    • "The slate-equality guard leaves (h) green by construction": the conclusion is right, and the stated reason is seed-specific (O11).
  • Accepted earlier, and still true at this head. Round 3 changed only display-label-backfill.ts, its pin and one changeset line, and the merge touched none of the packages below.
    • R1's cure. The predicate and the chain are unchanged. One boot fills every pre-change row, pin (a), and a second boot writes nothing, pin (b). The second boot's page is empty, so it makes no re-read either. One chain feeds both doors: rowFromRequest (approval-service.ts:1157), the open write (:3566, :3568), actionRow (:6767) and both passes of the fill (display-label-backfill.ts:193, :262).
    • R2's cure. All four write sites pass the stored stamp under PRESERVING_CONTEXT. The request site now passes the re-read one. Pins (g) and (e2) are unchanged.
    • preserveAudit's effect. objectql, driver-sql and plugin-audit are untouched since f8efc941a1. It still keeps the stamp and relaxes nothing else under isSystem.
    • The batching. It is unchanged: :175 and :252 here, and action-slot-backfill.ts:178 and :219. It is now pinned to discriminate (D9).
    • The guard count. approver-address-readers.test.ts is untouched. The new reread.pending_approvers === paged.pending_approvers compares a slate with a slate. It is none of the guard's three collected shapes (a membership call, a predicate column, a filter row), and it is not the slot-versus-caller family the guard holds, so nothing is owed. Test Core is green.
    • The census. It is still 229. The re-read is a find, not a write site. Lint · repo & tooling gates is green.
    • The erasure ratchet. Lint · scoped · query-options erasure is green.
    • minor with Clause-②: yes (widening) (②).
  • Unchanged and still as accepted:
    • Q1 (A), Q2 (B, built) and Q3 (A, with the coupling line);
    • riders O1, O2 and O4;
    • the orphaned action's null pointer;
    • O3, a noted cosmetic;
    • O8, filed by the seat.
  • The PR body still describes round 1. REWORK 6222977426 assigns its "Rows written before this change" line to the seat at ACCEPT, amended for this round: the re-read and the one-engine-call window.

FAIL reasons

None.

Observations (non-blocking)

  • O10 · Pin (c)'s recorded red is a per-slot labeller's, not a per-row one.
    • The addendum's failure line received [['u_alice'], ['position:legal'], ['u_mail'], ['position:legal']], which is one call per slot. A per-row labeller asks [['u_alice', 'position:legal'], ['u_mail'], ['position:legal']] on this seed.
    • The per-slot shape also fails the round-2 seed, so this leg does not show what round 3 added. It is very likely the same leg that 6222951649 O9 said "must have gone red on something else".
    • The pin itself discriminates per row (D9), so nothing in the code or the pin is owed. Only the leg's name is wrong: it should read "one call per slot", or a per-row leg should be run.
  • O11 · The three guards in the waiting-on branch are not observable in (h), alone or together.
    • The fill computes the waiting-on from the re-read slate (:207-208) with the page's batched names. The recalled row's slate is null, which labels nothing. Both moved rows moved to u_mail, which is not in the page's batch (u_alice, position:legal). So dropping the status check, the labels-null check, the slate equality, or all three, leaves (h) green. Only computing from the page row goes red.
    • The addendum's reason, that a slot on a moved slate "was not in that batch", holds for this seed, not in general. A slate moved onto slots another page row named would be labelled, and those labels would be true of the current slate. So no guard prevents a wrong value. They keep the null-only rule and the REWORK's stated shape. Nothing is owed.
  • O12 · The action-pass sentence names live writers only (display-label-backfill.ts:54-55). On another node, the action-slot repair writes action rows beside this pass. It is disjoint from this pass's columns except updated_at, which both keep at the stored value (D6). One clause in the module would make the reason complete. Not owed.
  • O3 and O8: carried, as recorded.

Gates (check-runs on this head, read last, 2026-10-16T20:12Z)

41 runs: 36 success, 5 skipped, none still running.

  • Required contexts, all green (as 6221735238 names them; branch protection is not readable from this session):
    • Lint & Repo Gates;
    • TypeScript Type Check;
    • Build Core;
    • Governed Surface Queue Guard;
    • Test Core, and Test Core (1/6) through (6/6).
  • Also green:
    • Check Changeset, Check PR Size, Check Documentation Links and Build Docs;
    • Dogfood Regression Gate and Spec property liveness;
    • the five Lint · lanes, and the three Lint · scoped · lanes, query-options erasure included;
    • the four Type Check · lanes;
    • the claim, single-writer, Part-of and card-claims-branch guards, Auto Label, Flag docs affected by code changes and filter.
  • Skipped (full-battery or opt-in jobs the PR run does not carry):
    • Console Pin Gate;
    • the Dogfood Regression Gate shards;
    • Dogfood Verify CLI;
    • Packed-tarball smoke (opt-in);
    • Temporal Conformance (live PG + MySQL).

No gate composes a job service beside the backfill. The R3 cure rests on pin (h) and the source, which Test Core runs green.

Reviewed against GitHub at head fbd7b4d3b5. The contract record of record is 6223828142, PASS (TIER_DEFAULT, declaration face), owed by Clause-②: yes (widening). It cures R3 from 6222951649, after R1 (6219954804) and R2 (6221735238), and finds no new reason.

Form

  • Draft, base main. The first line is Fixes #23889, then Clause-②: yes (widening).
  • 17 files, +1,634 / −103, under the 3,000-line human-merge threshold.
  • check-governed-merges.mjs --pr 23984: NOT governed.
  • One minor changeset for @objectstack/plugin-approvals.

What lands

  • The approval lists show labels the engine wrote, never re-derived by the console:
    • on sys_approval_request: process_label, current_step_label and pending_approver_labels (Waiting On);
    • on sys_approval_action: step_label, the object_name / record_id pointer pair, and acted_as_label.
  • One chain, requestDisplayLabels, feeds the inbox door, the open write, actionRow and the boot fill.
  • The boot fill on kernel:ready fills rows written before this change, terminal ones included. It writes only null columns, and a second boot writes nothing.
    • It keeps every row's updated_at (preserveAudit with the stored stamp passed back, at all four write sites).
    • It re-reads each request by id just before writing it, so a recall or slate change from the plugin's own boot sweep, or from another node, is never overwritten. The remaining window is the one engine call between the re-read and the write, the precedent's standard.
    • It reads names once per page.

The seat's own reading of the round-3 cure. display-label-backfill.ts at this head:

  • the re-read is at :188-190, and only pure code runs before the write at :212;
  • the patch is computed from the re-read row;
  • the waiting-on guard is at :201-206;
  • keptStamp(reread) passes back the re-read stamp;
  • there is no conditional where.

Pin (h) lands a recall and two slate changes between the page read and the writes. Each row keeps exactly what that write left, and the rest of the page is filled with stamps kept. Dropping the re-read turns it red.

Observations O10–O12, recorded and not owed.

  • O10: pin (c)'s recorded ablation leg is per-slot, not per-row. The pin itself discriminates.
  • O11: the three waiting-on guards are not individually observable in (h). They keep the null-only rule and can admit no wrong value.
  • O12: the action-pass sentence could also name the action-slot repair. That repair writes other columns and keeps the same stamp.

None changes what lands.

Riders and earlier answers, as accepted: Q1 (A), Q2 (B, built), Q3 (A, with the coupling line); O1, O2, O4; O3 a cosmetic; the census at 229; the erasure ratchet.

Gates and CI

  • The dev's gates at fbd7b4d3b: 1,103 / 1,103 tests; 97 / 97 derived gates exit 0, reconciled with --ran.
  • CI at fbd7b4d3b5: 48 check-runs (41 names), 41 success, 0 failure, 7 skipped.
    • Five skips are the roster's: Console Pin Gate; the Dogfood Regression Gate matrix; Dogfood Verify CLI; Packed-tarball smoke; Temporal Conformance.
    • Two are re-runs of Check PR Size and Auto Label after the body edit. Both passed earlier on this head.
  • All required contexts are green.

ACCEPT. This act marks the PR ready and enables auto-merge through the fleet relay. It lands through the merge queue. After it merges, the dev session is archived and #23978 (approval-service.ts) is released to dispatch.
