Replaces semantic-release with release-please, matching the setup in android-maps-compose, android-maps-utils and android-places-compose.

Changes

  • Remove .releaserc and .github/workflows/release.yml (semantic-release).
  • Add release-please-config.json and .release-please-manifest.json, seeded at the current version 1.17.0.
  • Add .github/workflows/release-please.yml, which opens and maintains a release PR on pushes to main.
  • Add .github/workflows/publish.yml: when a release is published, it builds the ApiDemos and advanced debug APKs and attaches them to the release (same assets as before: ApiDemos-kotlin-debug.apk, advanced-kotlin-debug.apk).
  • Mark versionName in Maps3DSamples/ApiDemos/kotlin-app/build.gradle.kts and Maps3DSamples/advanced/app/build.gradle.kts with x-release-please-version so release-please bumps them (the job the replace plugin did before).

Behavior change

Releases are no longer cut automatically on every push to main. release-please opens a release PR, and the release (tag, GitHub release, APKs) happens when that PR is merged. A CHANGELOG.md will be created by the first release PR.

Testing

Built both APKs locally with the same Gradle command the publish workflow uses and confirmed the output paths.
