This has been merged in the generator, so the next step should be do do a gapic update

This could be considered a bug rather than feature request as the latest version of Protobuf and Cloud client libraries are not compatible.

This is also blocking usage of
grpcio-statuswithprotobuf==7.34.0sincegrpcio-statusrequiresgoogleapis-common-protoswhich requiresprotobuf<7.0.0I filed a separate issue with gRPC because the
grpcio-statuspackage currently has the same wierd requirement. It directly requiresprotobuf<7.0.0parthea commentedon Mar 24, 2026
In addition to the changes in #16102, we'll also need the fix for grpc/grpc#41933 as per #16001 (comment).

fix: Allow Protobuf 7.x, require Python 3.9 (#16102)
