Summary

  • Corrects the --force paragraph in stop-and-delete-a-workspace.mdx (one file, 1 insertion and 1 deletion).
  • Old text said force "only removes the workspace on the Devsy side". Source shows provider teardown still runs for running containers and auto-delete machines, and daemon-backed deletes are still attempted.
  • New text scopes each path: container status-check behavior, auto-delete machine delete failures, and daemon-backed instance delete.

Why

  • pkg/client/clientimplementation/workspace_client.go: deleteContainer skips teardown only when the isMachineRunning check fails under force. This applies to container deletion only, including machine providers without autoDelete. handleForceError (line 580) ignores errors under force and logs only errors other than context.DeadlineExceeded.
  • Same file, deleteInstance sends autoDelete machines to deleteMachine, which has no status check. A failed machine delete command under force is logged and the delete continues.
  • pkg/client/clientimplementation/daemonclient/delete.go: deleteInstance still attempts the instance delete. Under force, a failed delete request is logged only when it is not kerrors.IsNotFound (line 104 vs 112), and the function returns nil. waitForWorkspaceDeleted (line 152) can still return an error.

Validation

  • npm ci in sites/docs-devsy-sh
  • npm run build: exit 0 (on the current head)
  • npm run check-links: 0 errored files, 0 errors

CodeRabbit CLI

  • Commit d46468a: completed, 0 findings.
  • Heads 590fd01, 86506a9, and cd30ac1: the local CLI is rate-limited on free OSS reviews. No local CodeRabbit pass is claimed for those heads.
  • Head 225bdeb: coderabbit review --agent --committed --base-commit $(git merge-base HEAD origin/main) completed, 0 findings, 1 file reviewed.

Auto-merge

Eligible on scope: docs-only, 1 file, 1 insertion and 1 deletion, no tests. Not merged. CI and coordinator gates still apply.

Next

Reviewer to confirm the wording against the cited lines. Mark ready only after CI passes.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Clarified that workspace deletion may continue after some provider errors, while timeouts or failures waiting for instance deletion can still interrupt it.
    • Noted that provider resources may remain after deletion.

The stop/delete page said --force only removes the workspace on the Devsy side. In pkg/client/clientimplementation/workspace_client.go, force still runs the provider delete command when the workspace is running; it only ignores its errors and skips teardown when the running check fails.

Walkthrough

The --force documentation now describes provider-specific teardown and deletion behavior. It states which failures are logged, ignored, skipped, or can still stop deletion. It also notes that provider resources may remain.

Name the container and auto-delete machine paths separately. deleteContainer skips teardown when the machine status check fails under force; deleteInstance sends AutoDelete machines to deleteMachine, which logs a failed delete command and continues.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Qualify the container teardown logging claim.

Under --force, handleForceError ignores context.DeadlineExceeded without logging the error. The teardown can fail while provider resources remain, without a teardown-error log. State this timeout exception in the paragraph.

Suggested fix
-For container deletion (including machine providers without `autoDelete`), a failed container teardown is logged and ignored, and if Devsy cannot check the machine status it skips the container teardown.
+For container deletion (including machine providers without `autoDelete`), a failed container teardown is ignored under force; timeout failures are not logged. If Devsy cannot check the machine status, it skips the container teardown.

daemonclient/delete.go deleteInstance logs a failed instance delete and returns nil under force, but waitForWorkspaceDeleted can still return an error. Document that narrowly.
handleForceError ignores non-nil errors under force and logs only errors other than context.DeadlineExceeded. Reword the container clause to match.
