Changes

  • when the pip index is a plain http:// url (e.g. a CDN via CONTAINERBASE_CDN), also set PIP_TRUSTED_HOST to its host, pip refuses an untrusted http index otherwise
  • https indexes are unchanged

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • For non-default package indexes using plain HTTP, pip now automatically trusts the index host while preserving existing trusted hosts. This also applies to HTTP CDN URLs, including those using a custom port.
  • Documentation
    • Clarified that pip automatically trusts the host for HTTP CDN URLs.

📝 Walkthrough

pipIndexEnv now adds the host of a configured HTTP index to PIP_TRUSTED_HOST while preserving existing hosts. Tests cover HTTP and HTTPS CDN configurations. The CDN documentation describes the trusted-host behavior for HTTP URLs.

pipIndexEnv adds an HTTP index host to PIP_TRUSTED_HOST unless it is already present. Tests cover HTTP and HTTPS CDN cases, including when pip CDN routing is disabled or unset. The CDN documentation describes the trusted-host setting for HTTP URLs.

High-Level Assessment

Keep the trust setting in the shared pip environment helper. It covers both Python installation paths and limits the exception to the resolved plain HTTP host, rather than configuring pip trust globally.

Resolved findings
1. Uppercase HTTP indexes remain untrusted ✓ Resolved
Description
pipIndexEnv() checks the unnormalized index with the case-sensitive startsWith('http://'),
although an uppercase HTTP:// scheme is valid. When CONTAINERBASE_CDN or a URL replacement
supplies that scheme, the function passes the HTTP index to pip without setting its trusted host.
Code

src/cli/tools/python/utils.ts[R29-30]

+    if (pipIndex.startsWith('http://')) {
+      env.PIP_TRUSTED_HOST = new URL(pipIndex).host;
Agent prompt
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution

## Issue description
Valid indexes using an uppercase HTTP scheme do not receive `PIP_TRUSTED_HOST`.
## Fix Focus Areas
- src/cli/tools/python/utils.ts[23-31]
## Recommended Fix
Detect the scheme case-insensitively, or parse the URL and compare its normalized protocol to `http:`. Add a test with an uppercase HTTP CDN or replacement.

2. Existing trusted pip hosts are lost ✓ Resolved
Description
pipIndexEnv() assigns the CDN host to PIP_TRUSTED_HOST without retaining a value already set by
the user. When an HTTP CDN is enabled alongside another trusted host, the pip subprocess receives
only the CDN host, so requests to the other host no longer have its trust exception.
Code

src/cli/tools/python/utils.ts[30]

+      env.PIP_TRUSTED_HOST = new URL(pipIndex).host;
Agent prompt
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution

## Issue description
An HTTP CDN replaces an existing `PIP_TRUSTED_HOST` value passed to pip.
## Fix Focus Areas
- src/cli/tools/python/utils.ts[20-32]
## Recommended Fix
Add the CDN host to any existing `PIP_TRUSTED_HOST` value using pip's whitespace-separated format, rather than replacing that value. Cover the combination in a test.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift

Preserve trusted hosts from pip configuration.

If pip.conf defines a trusted host for an HTTP extra index, this code reads only penv.PIP_TRUSTED_HOST. The new environment value then overrides the configured trusted hosts. pip can ignore the extra index and fail to install packages available only there. Preserve the effective configured hosts when adding the CDN host. (pip.pypa.io)
