Follow view controller containment instead of the responder chain, which continues from a presented modal to the screen behind it, and only pop the enclosing route when it is the top of its navigation stack. Otherwise fall back to onHostBack. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Description
The host back button in embedded iOS auth and profile views waits for a JavaScript round trip to leave a native navigation screen. Pop the native route that contains the view directly when possible, with the existing
onHostBackcallback as the fallback. Repeated taps during the pop are ignored. The route is found through view controller containment rather than the responder chain, because the responder chain continues from a presented modal to the screen behind it. The route is only popped when it is the top of its navigation stack. A view presented in a modal, or at the root of a stack, falls back to
onHostBack. To verify, push an embedded auth or profile view onto a native navigation stack and use its host back button, including repeated taps. Then present one in a modal above a pushed screen: host back should call
onHostBackand leave the screen behind it in place. Check thatonHostBackstill handles navigation when no enclosing native route can be popped.AuthViewpushed onto a@react-navigation/native-stackroute (header hidden), host back tapped three times: the route pops once natively andonHostBackis never called.https://gh-file-drop-api-prod-mi5fy3sowv63ufte.pinglabs.workers.dev/f/2fbae640581588fc/pushed-back.mp4
AuthViewas the stack's root screen: there is nothing to pop, so each host back tap falls through toonHostBack.https://gh-file-drop-api-prod-mi5fy3sowv63ufte.pinglabs.workers.dev/f/d0d74623fa6ca606/root-fallback.mp4
