Pull requests that are merged within a minute of each other start documentation runs that push to gh-pages at the same time. On 2026-10-12 the run for the merge of #756 failed with "cannot lock ref 'refs/heads/gh-pages'" because another run had just pushed (run 38208593501).

With a concurrency group for each ref, a run for main waits until the run in progress has finished. A newer push replaces a run that is still waiting, so the documentation of the latest commit is the one deployed. Runs for a release use the tag's ref, so pushes to main never replace them.
