- Line 222: Update the response check using $frm_settings->failed_msg to skip
str_contains() and leave the response unchanged when the message is exactly an
empty string; use an explicit empty-string comparison so values such as '0' are
still searched.

Approve. The fix does what it says: a duplicate AJAX submit now shows the "already submitted" message inside the form. One non-blocking note on an empty failed message (inline). Pro's companion change is #6846.
Live check (preview env, Lite on this PR and Pro on #6846, AJAX form, same value submitted twice):
- Base: the second submit leaves the form with no message at all (no error summary, no duplicate text).
- This PR: the form shows
<div role="alert" data-frm-error-summary="1"><div id="failed_error">We're sorry. It looks like you've already submitted that.</div></div>at the top. - First, non-duplicate submit on this PR still shows the normal "Thanks!" success message.
js/formidable.min.js is regenerated and contains the new if(response.error_message) guard. Not covered: I did not click through other form-level error keys (spam, etc.), and no PHPUnit test was added or run.
- Non-blocking: an empty Failed/Duplicate Entry message now renders an empty red alert box (see inline).

With the Failed/Duplicate Entry message set to an empty string, str_contains( $content, '' ) is always true in PHP 8, so this branch runs on every AJAX submit, including successful ones. I reproduced it: on base the success message is silently dropped and the form reappears (already wrong). On this PR the form now also shows an empty red role="alert" box (<div id="failed_error"></div>).
Treat an empty message as "nothing to detect" and leave the response alone:
| if ( ! str_contains( $response['content'], $frm_settings->failed_msg ) ) { | |
| if ( '' === $frm_settings->failed_msg || ! str_contains( $response['content'], $frm_settings->failed_msg ) ) { |
Use the explicit '' comparison (not empty()), so a message of '0' is still searched. CodeRabbit raised the same point. Pro's copy of this function in #6846 needs the same change.

Approve (re-review at bcc81a7). The new commit adds the guard I suggested last round: '' === $frm_settings->failed_msg || ! str_contains(...) returns the response untouched when the Failed/Duplicate Entry message is empty. A '0' message still gets searched, since the check is an exact '' compare.
Live check (private preview env, Lite on this PR, an AJAX form with the Failed/Duplicate Entry message set to empty, a unique value submitted once):
- Previous head 0289027: the form re-renders with an empty red alert box and no success message (
<div id="failed_error"></div>):
- This head bcc81a7: the normal success message shows, no empty alert:

- Non-empty message, same value twice: the second submit shows the duplicate message in the form's error summary, as in my first review.
Only the empty-message and non-empty duplicate paths were exercised again; php -l is clean. No PHPUnit test was added or run, and most CI jobs show as skipped. Pro companion #6846 is unchanged and was not re-checked.
