Plug in. Move over. Relax.
A small Windows tray utility that moves your open app windows to a newly connected display.
If you normally use one PC monitor but sometimes connect a TV for movies, moving every open window by hand gets old quickly. Display Hopper watches for a newly connected display and moves normal application windows there automatically.
It has no always-open interface, no account, no analytics, and no background network activity. Close the settings window and it quietly remains in the notification area.
- Detects newly connected or enabled displays automatically
- Moves normal visible app windows to the new display
- Preserves minimized and maximized window states
- Keeps windows inside the destination display's usable area
- Manual Move windows now action
- Optional launch with Windows
- Native notification-area controls
- Self-contained 64-bit executable with no installer or separate runtime
- Download the latest ZIP from Releases.
- Extract it anywhere you like.
- Run
DisplayHopper.exe.
Windows may show an unknown-publisher warning because community builds are not code-signed. Display Hopper does not require administrator access.
- Run Display Hopper. Its settings window opens and its icon appears in the notification area.
- Leave Move windows automatically enabled.
- Connect or enable your TV or second monitor.
- After Windows finishes detecting the display, Display Hopper moves your open application windows onto it.
Left-click the tray icon to open settings. Right-click it for quick actions. Closing settings keeps the utility running; choose Exit from the tray menu to stop it.
Display Hopper moves top-level application windows. Browser tabs inside the same Chrome, Edge, or Firefox window move together because Windows exposes the browser window—not each tab—as a movable desktop window.
The desktop, taskbar, hidden system surfaces, utility tool windows, and Display Hopper itself are ignored. Some administrator-level applications may not accept movement commands from a standard user process.
Requirements:
- Windows 10 or 11, x64
- .NET 10 SDK
dotnet publish .\DisplayHopper.csproj -c Release -r win-x64 --self-contained trueThe project uses direct Win32 calls and does not depend on a UI framework or third-party package.
Display Hopper works locally. It does not collect data, track usage, contact a server, or require an internet connection. The Ko-fi button only opens the project's Ko-fi page in your default browser when you click it.
If Display Hopper saves you a little time, you can support continued improvements on Ko-fi.
Bug reports and pull requests are welcome. See CONTRIBUTING.md for the quick development workflow.
