Stacked on #59 (docs/continuation-design), which contains the connector separation, Go API cleanup and real-API save tests this builds on. Retarget to main once the stack merges.

What this adds

A read-only native Kubernetes viewer, the first slice of the native watch request:

const store = new LiveResourceStore(readOnlyPolicy);
const connection = connectNativeWatch(
nativeCollectionURL("/k8s", { group: "apps", version: "v1", resource: "deployments", namespace: "app", labelSelector: "tier=web" }),
  event => applyStreamEvent(store, event),
);
  • connectNativeWatch(collectionURL, consume, options): same options, handle, seven states and completion guarantees as connectResourceStream.
  • nativeCollectionURL(proxyBase, scope): core/grouped, namespaced/cluster-scoped, optional labelSelector, name → fieldSelector=metadata.name=…, with path/query encoding. It refuses ./..// segments.
  • Both are exported from the root entry and the ./bundle file. The package still has zero runtime dependencies.

Behavior

  • An ordinary unpaginated LIST is validated before anything is delivered: response shape, items, UID and name, duplicate UIDs and the collection resourceVersion. Missing item apiVersion/kind is filled from a typed <Kind>List. Type metadata already on the item is kept. Kind is never taken from a generic List, a meta.k8s.io collection or the plural URL.
  • A metadata.continue token produces a terminal unsupported-pagination error before reset, so a partial page never establishes membership.
  • The connector delivers reset and one added per member, including for an empty collection. It then opens a WATCH from the collection RV with the same selectors. synced and live come only after the WATCH is accepted, and the healthy-period timer does not start while the WATCH is opening.
  • Native watch JSON is decoded incrementally across chunk, line and UTF-8 boundaries. ADDED/MODIFIED/DELETED map to state events, and a deletion's identity comes from the object. BOOKMARK is ignored. ERROR is classified from its Status. Malformed or truncated frames and invalid UTF-8 are reported and retried, never skipped.
  • Every reconnect re-lists. Prior state stays until a completed replacement snapshot prunes unseen UIDs.
  • Errors are classified by the transport:
    • HTTP or in-stream 410 is recovered with a fresh LIST.
    • 401/403 and other 4xx (except 408/429) are terminal.
    • 408/429, 5xx, network failures, EOF and malformed input use the bounded budget. Retry-After and retryAfterSeconds are honored. Repeated 410 or short EOF exhausts the budget instead of looping.
    • Kubernetes Status messages reach onError.
  • Close or abort cancels the LIST, the WATCH, pending body reads and backoff, and nothing is delivered after it. Host-callback exceptions keep the existing cleanup and rejected closed.

Shared lifecycle

connection.ts's retry, health-timer, state, cancellation and completion machinery moved unchanged into an internal lifecycle.ts (runConnection + TransportHooks). connectResourceStream is now a one-line SSE transport over it. Request options, refusal classification, the Status message reader and Retry-After moved to an internal http.ts. Native framing does not import SSEDecoder, StreamSequence or the protocol-header check. The SSE public API and classification are unchanged, and SSE HTTP 410 stays terminal. There is no public transport plugin API.

Example and docs

  • examples/native-viewer/ is one HTML page showing identity, fields, connection state and disposal. You can run it against a cluster with kubectl proxy --api-prefix=/k8s/ --www=. --www-prefix=/files/. It has no editor and no write endpoint.
  • README:
    • a source-choice table: native gives original authorized resources with the shared lifecycle and state; the gateway gives projected, redacted or suppressed views and optional upstream sharing
    • a native-proxy usage snippet
  • The client README has a "Native connections" reference. The guides, proposals 0006/0009/0010, the spec note and the examples now describe the implemented connector. Slice 1 is marked implemented with its acceptance evidence. The editor and saving guides, migration docs and protocol-version policy are untouched.
  • This PR also carries the docs/continuation-design doc edits committed as c6c225d, which are on the base branch.

Validation (final commit, local)

Check Result
task fixtures-check ✅ no diff
task test ✅ client 201/201 (57 new native, SSE lifecycle suite unchanged apart from two import paths), Vue 2/2, gateway/kube Go suites ok
task lint ✅ (go vet, golangci-lint incl. -tags e2e, tsc ×2, biome)
task build-client / task pack-client ✅ bundle and tarball export connectNativeWatch/nativeCollectionURL
task e2e-wire ✅ all green
task e2e-browser ✅ 24/24, incl. the native viewer on both entry points (Playwright plays the proxy)
task test-real-api ✅ 7/7 on k3s v1.36.4+k3s1, incl. new TestRealAPINativeWatchThroughHostProxy (credential-holding /k8s reverse proxy → node connectNativeWatch: typed-list kind fill, modify, delete, selector exit, same-name recreation, close)
Manual Example served by real kubectl proxy in headless Chromium: list → live → patched value shown → Disconnect → closed
Doc links/anchors ✅ all in-repo links resolve (only pre-existing failures under vendored external/gitops-reverser)

Not run: task release-rehearsal, task test-cluster, task cluster-facts (not required for this change). The native unit/connection suites were also repeated 15× with no flakes.

Deliberately out of scope (follow-ups)

  • Native editing with machinery/last-applied protections and a source-bound write contract
  • Native resume, streaming lists and pagination
  • Comparative view/sharing measurements
  • Independent gateway continuation and save-progress evaluation
  • Independently proposed editor API cleanup (proposal 0009)

…ween transports

Move retries, the healthy-period reset, published state, cancellation and
completion out of connectResourceStream into an internal runConnection that
drives one transport function through TransportHooks. Move request options,
refusal classification, the Kubernetes Status message reader and Retry-After
parsing into an internal http module. The SSE connector's public API,
classification and behavior are unchanged; its suite passes without edits
beyond two import paths.

Add connectNativeWatch and nativeCollectionURL. Each connection performs an
ordinary unpaginated LIST, delivers reset and the complete membership, opens a
WATCH from the collection resourceVersion with the same selectors, and only
then delivers synced and publishes live. Native watch JSON is decoded
incrementally across byte, line and UTF-8 boundaries; bookmarks change
nothing. Every reconnect re-lists, so the store keeps previous state until a
completed snapshot prunes it.

HTTP or in-stream 410, 408, 429, 5xx, network failures, EOF and malformed or
truncated input use the shared bounded retry policy and hints; 401, 403 and
other 4xx are terminal, as is a LIST carrying a continuation token, which is
refused before reset. Read-only: no native editing, resume, streaming lists
or pagination in this slice.

examples/native-viewer is one HTML page that lists and watches a native
collection through a host proxy with connectNativeWatch and a read-only store,
showing identity, fields, connection state and disposal. The Chromium suite
loads it on both entry points with Playwright playing the proxy: snapshot
before live, re-list pruning, disconnect and a terminal Status refusal.

TestRealAPINativeWatchThroughHostProxy runs the connector in node through a
credential-holding /k8s reverse proxy against a real API server: typed-list
type metadata, modification, deletion, selector exit and same-name recreation.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Add a native-proxy usage snippet and a source-choice table to the README, a
native connections reference to the client README, and point the guides,
proposals, spec note and examples at the implemented read-only connector.
Record slice 1's acceptance evidence and list the follow-ups separately:
native editing, native resume/streaming lists/pagination, comparative
measurements, gateway continuation and save progress, and editor API cleanup.

yet. The read-only native connector, `connectNativeWatch`, is a new addition rather than a migration
step, and uses today's standalone state-input helper. Gateway pages keep `connectResourceStream`.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Resolve the connector contradiction.

This paragraph introduces connectNativeWatch, but the next section calls connectResourceStream “the only connector.” The migration guide therefore contradicts the API it just documents. Change the later sentence to say “the only gateway connector.”

nativeCollectionURL trimmed trailing slashes with /\/+$/, which CodeQL flags as polynomial ReDoS (js/polynomial-redos) on caller input: a long run of slashes not at the end retries from every slash. A loop trims in linear time.
