Summary

High-Level Summary of Changes

This PR significantly enhances the .github/workflows/code-review.yml workflow by introducing a more robust and asynchronous process for enqueuing and monitoring AI code reviews. The changes improve reliability, error handling, and overall user experience by ensuring that the AI review job is properly queued and its status is continuously monitored.

.github/workflows/code-review.yml

  • Formatting and Indentation: Improved readability with consistent indentation and formatting.

  • Enqueue AI Review:

    • The step Call AI Review Bot (base → head) has been renamed to Enqueue AI review for clarity.
    • Added environment variable validation to ensure REVIEW_API is set before proceeding.
    • The payload construction remains the same but now uses set -euo pipefail for better error handling.
    • Instead of directly calling the review endpoint, it calls a /review-queue endpoint and captures the jobId from the response. This jobId is stored in GITHUB_OUTPUT for use in subsequent steps.
  • Wait for AI Reviewer to Finish:

    • A new step named Wait for AI reviewer to finish has been added.
    • Validates that both JOB_ID and REVIEW_API are set before proceeding.
    • Uses a loop to periodically check the status of the queued job via the /status/$JOB_ID endpoint.
    • Parses the state from the response and acts accordingly:
      • If the state is completed, it logs success and exits successfully.
      • If the state is failed, it extracts an error message, logs failure, and exits with an error code.
      • If the state is missing or invalid, it retries after a short delay.
    • Includes a timeout mechanism to prevent infinite loops if the job does not complete within a reasonable timeframe.

Overall Summary

The intent of this PR is to enhance the reliability and robustness of the AI code review process by implementing an asynchronous job queue system. This change ensures that the workflow can handle errors more gracefully, provide better feedback on the status of AI reviews, and prevent unnecessary delays or failures due to missing environment variables or unexpected responses from the review service.
